I Can't Drive 17.5
With an alcohol content this high, the Big Rock Paso Robles Syrah doesn't have to taste this good. It could easily coast on the obvious appeal of its 17.5% ABV, cultivating an audience of wine drinkers seeking the shortest possible path from A to Blotto.
But that's not why Michael Gill got into this business. So he's crafted a muscularly fruity example of Rhone/Robles fusion in all its cherry, cola, chocolate, pepper, licorice, and smoke glory. That warm glow of contentment and well-being you'll feel won't be entirely due to the ABV.
Features
A deep color and full body – a beautiful marriage of terroir and Rhone character. This fruit bomb has aromas of cassis, dried cherries, cola, chocolate, and creamy vanilla with hints of licorice, nutmeg and white pepper. There is an ever so slight teaser of smoke interspersed within its blackberry-bramble body. Hearty stews, peppercorn steak, and caramelized onion pizzas would all pair with this luscious wine. Best to be decanted and allowed to breathe prior to serving.

Michael Gill Cellars

- Paso Robles
Nestled within a rolling landscape of oak trees, the vineyards are small, potent, and exquisite. The west side Paso Robles coastal estate takes full advantage of the excellent natural conditions: the mountainous terroir is known for its rocky, calcareous soil, and differing levels of hillside sun exposure allow vineyards to be specifically sited for each varietal.
This gives founding vintner, Michael Gill, the opportunity to cultivate luxurious wines unmatched in quality. Inspired by the historicism and beauty of illustrious French hunting lodges, the tasting room inspires images of time gone by. Nestled in the midst of surrounding vineyards and centuries-old oaks, it evokes a classicism and indulgence often unfound in Paso Robles.
Producing up to 1,000 cases when in full production, Michael Gill Cellars strives to stay at a smaller scale to keep as much consistency, control, and excellence in the wine as possible.
From the limestone-rich soils to the hot days and cool nights, Michael Gill Cellars has the perfect growing conditions to elegantly ripen such Rhone-style varietals as Syrah, Viognier, and Counoise. As a family vineyard, the vines receive the utmost care from founder Michael Gill, as well as other members of the family, to ensure both proper care and quality from the vine to the bottle.
