Hurrah for Sirah! (and Zinfandel)
Woot is proud to offer two great wines from Vinum Cellars:
2009 Petite Sirah – The petite Sirah is quite popular nowadays, but that hasn’t always been the case. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, much larger full-size Sirahs quickly grew in popularity. Wine drinkers were attracted by the size, convenience, and supposed safety of such models. Full-size Sirahs kept getting bigger and bigger, to the point where it wasn’t uncommon to find vintages that got gas mileage in the single digits. Toward the latter half of the decade their popularity began to decline, which was greatly hastened by the 2008 financial crisis. Full-size Sirahs became a symbol of unnecessary excess, and their sales today are at an all-time low. The petite Sirah is once again in vogue, viewed as a sensible wine for more cautious times.
2011- California Zinfandel – This one tastes like fruit.
Features
2009 Vinum Cellars Petite Sirah White Label 750ml 3-Pack
This Petite Sirah has ripe blueberry and plum fruit with subtle notes of blackberry, cassis and spice. This wine is a fine choice with grilled meats. Good body and nice finish with decent tannins- drink now or hold for 6-8 years.
2011 Vinum Cellars California Zinfandel 750ml 3-Pack
Deep garnet color, with aromas of sweet black cherry and sour cherry notes. The palate is juicy with strawberry rhubarb and leathery tannins with earth notes which finishes with silky French oak tannins. The wine has nice acidity and low alcohol for a Zin (13.5%) making it uniquely balanced and therefore food friendly. This wine pairs well with Thanksgiving Turkey (don't forget the cranberries), also grilled Pork Chops with a roasted apple chutney and served with red cabbage and goat cheese.
