Tertulia is a Spanish word meaning "a social gathering of friends." We chose this name because we believe there is no better way to enjoy a fine bottle of wine than amongst friends. At Tertulia Cellars, our focus is to make wines of quality and distinction from the finest vineyards in both the Columbia and Walla Walla Valleys.
2011 Sobra, Columbia Valley
- Double Gold, Seattle Wine Awards
On the first whiff, aromas of mint, and cloves followed by cherry, vanilla, coco butter and molasses. The palate is full of wild tannins and a long finish. The patient will be well rewarded by letting this wine cellars for a few years.
Growing Season: The 2011 growing season started cool and wet. Summer temperatures remained below average. Thankfully very little rain late in the season allowed the fruit to reach ripeness. Lower brix and higher acid made for a classically balanced vintage.
Vineyards: We sourced fruit from Phinny Hill and Blue Mountain Vineyards for our 2011 Sobra.
2012 Sobra, Columbia Valley
The first whiff off the nose is eucalyptus followed by tart cherry, mineral notes if wet stone and licorice, As the wine evolves it opens to notes of sweet tarts, kaffir lime leaves, red current and bitter sweet chocolate. In the mouth this wine has bright acidity that pairs well with its beautifully integrated tannins. Drink now or till 2027.
Growing Season: The 2012 growing season was remarkably average. In terms of quality, average in Walla Walla means excellent. Temperatures were perfect for growing grapes and the finish to the season allowed ample time for the fruit to reach full ripeness. As is typical we had big swings in the daytime highs to nighttime lows that allow our grapes to preserve their acidity.
Vineyards: We sourced fruit from our Whistling Hills Estate Vineyard and Phinny Hill Vineyards for our 2-12 Sobra
