May Showers (of Wine) Bring Happy Hours
It's such a lovely time of year - but not so lovely that it couldn't be made a little lovelier. Tip a glass or few of these fine wines and let their euphoric glow bring a sparkling sense of well-being to sunny and blustery days alike. Also they're super-cheap.
Features
Stillman Petite Sirah NV, Paso Robles, "Deep Purple" 750ml 2-Pack
A moderate stylistic departure from my previous Petite Sirahs and Syrahs, this bottling is considerably more tannic: nothing two hours in the decanter or a rib eye won’t cure, though it will certainly hold over a decade in the bottle. Darker than the label, the wine shows aromas and flavors of ripe blackberry and blueberry, vanilla and smoky spices, with a firm but fine tannin structure. Primarily from Brohaugh Vineyard just outside Templeton, the higher tannic structure of the 2011 blended well with the precocious fruit of the 2012; thus the lack of a vintage on the label. A little something else was added, but Stillman won’t tell Us because the respective growers might see this and do a slow Burn.

Zeppelin Winery is a very small producer of super premium wines, based on the Central Coast of California. Founded in 2009 by winemaker Stillman Brown of Red Zeppelin Winery and wine veteran Dan Lewis (he's the office guy) they produce tiny lots of Syrah and other misunderstood varietals, with almost invariably insane labels. Most can only be purchased directly, but once in a while they emerge into the light of day.
