To Michael, On His Last Night In Town
Well, you’ve finally done it, Mikey. You’ve made something of yourself. You’re finally ready to snatch the brass ring from the carousel of life. Tomorrow, you step aboard a plane that will carry you away from your friends, family, and pretty much everyone you’ve ever met to start your new life in an unfamiliar city. That why tonight, we are all here to raise a glass of this fine Ramsay 2008 North Coast Pinot Noir and bid you good luck and goodbye. And I, for one, would also like to add, “Good riddance.”
Heh heh, that’s right, Mikey. Have a chuckle. You really have no idea how much I’ve grown to despise you over the years, do you? Of course not. You’ve always been far too busy “borrowing” money from me, taking credit for my hard work at the office, or sleeping with girlfriends of mine behind my back to ever notice. But now the day I’ve so longed for has finally arrived, the day that you finally depart from our daily lives and become little more than a faint memory attached to a status update. The thought fills my heart with a delicious joy much like this wine is filled with the aromas of red fruit and subtle notes of toast and leather on the nose.
But let’s not dwell on things like why no one will shed even the slightest tear over your absence or why we’ve all put up with your somewhat sociopathic antics as long as we have. Instead, let’s all enjoy the dried cherry flavors, silky smooth tannins, and pinpoint acidity of this lovely Pinot Noir. If there’s one good thing I can say about you, Mikey, it’s that you’ve always had great taste in wine no matter how broken your moral compass has become.
So goodbye, you bratty double-crossing fiend. You’ve always been a bit of a jerk but, after tonight, you’re not our problem anymore. Cheers.

Kent Rasmussen Winery
- Founded:
- 1986
- Owners:
- Kent and Celia Rasmussen
- Location:
- St. Helena, CA
Since its modest beginnings, the Kent Rasmussen Winery has evolved into one of the most important producers in the Napa region. The winery outgrew its tractor shed barrel room on Cuttings Wharf Road in the Napa Carneros long ago. In 1995, Kent and Celia established a new winemaking facility in a turn of the century slaughterhouse, on the Silverado Trail in St. Helena. Refined over the years, it now houses business offices, an enology lab and lab tasting room, a wine library and upgraded production equipment. The modern crusher, press, tanks, catwalks, refrigeration systems, pumps, forklift and fruit sorter have greatly enhanced winemaking options. Grapes are either estate grown or under long term contract with reliable growers.
