Moniker Pinot Noir is a big, dark-hued wine sourced from three cool-climate Mendocino County vineyards, each imparting their own flavors: earth from Anderson Valley, intense berry from Redwood Valley and rhubarb and potpourri from Potter Valley. We fermented a portion of the grapes in macro-bins, punching down by hand for wine of high color and intensity to contrast with the savory nature of pumped-over tank lots. A German yeast strain supported the wine’s dark fruit profile while native yeasts contributed bright fruit and forest floor aromatics. Malolactic fermentation and the boldness of American oak lend sumptuousness and spice to this strong and expressive vintage.

The Thornhill Family
Our family has created a legacy of growing superior wine grapes in Mendocino County. Three generations of Thornhills share a passion for crafting exceptionally bold, rich wines, guided by our philosophy of leaving things better than we find them. That includes doing what’s right for our environment, our employees and our community. Our wines represent the best of us. They are our identity; they are our Moniker.
These wines are the ultimate expression of our family's devotion to Mendocino County's breathtaking beauty, rich wine culture and friendly, hard-working people. They represent the best of our family and the singular appeal of one of the world's finest and most distinctive winegrowing regions.
Mendocino County is home to some of California’s most stunning landscapes: a long, ruggedly beautiful coastline, ancient groves of towering redwood trees and a host of sun-drenched inland valleys dotted with grapevine-covered hillsides.
Wine grapes have been grown in Mendocino since the 1850s, when fortune-seeking Italian immigrants began planting cultivars and making bold, hearty reds like those from their homeland. Today, Mendocino boasts a dozen distinctive American Viticultural Areas (AVAs), over 100 wineries and 17,000 acres of vines.
“Mendocino’s broad range of microclimates and soil types enable us to cultivate a wide range of varieties,” says Moniker Winemaker Mark Beaman. Warm inland valleys provide ideal growing conditions for varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, while Mendocino’s coastal districts specialize in cool-climate varietals like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir
