3 - 2014 Chardonnay, Santa Barbara County
3 - 2014 Sauvignon Blanc, Santa Barbara County
From the Lucas & Lewellen vineyards in Santa Barbara County, Louis Lucas selects choice lots for a limited production of premium wines. Attention to detail in the vineyards yields superior quality grapes from which Megan McGrath Gates crafts award winning wines. The vineyards of Lucas & Lewellen are located in the three principal wine grape growing regions of Santa Barbara County: the Santa Maria Valley, the Los Alamos Valley, and the Santa Ynez Valley. These valleys all run west from the coastal mountains to the Pacific Ocean, allowing warm days and cool nights to produce a long, gentle growing season.
2014 Chardonnay, Santa Barbara County
Lucas & Lewellen Vineyards is owned and operated by the two namesake families who produce the estate grown fruit for this bright, stainless steel fermented Chardonnay. This wine has distinct pear, peach and stone fruit complexity with a hint of lemony-citrus. It is a pure expression of the fruit grown on vines from the Los Alamos Vineyards in Northern Santa Barbara County.
Vineyard Notes
The Los Alamos Vineyard is a cool climate vineyard in the Santa Barbara County AVA. Stretching for over a mile of Highway 101 frontage just south of the town of Los Alamos, these vineyards are home to 20 varieties of grapes, representing the principal varieties of the Rhone, Burgundy and Bordeaux regions of France, as well as Italian varieties. With some of the vines planted from cuttings brought from Europe over 35 years ago, these vineyards have long been a favorite source for many of California's best wineries.
2014 Sauvignon Blanc, Santa Barbara County
This wine derives from grapes grown in our Valley View Vineyard, east of Solvang in the Santa Ynez Valley. The climate allows the grapes to mature slowly, developing a zippy acidity that defines this crisp balanced and refreshing Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes are slightly tart and naturally make a fresh, bright wine with nuances of mineral, ruby red grapefruit, gooseberry, perfume, and lemon zest.
Vineyard Notes
Our Valley View Vineyard is a warm climate vineyard in the Santa Barbara County AVA. Sloping gently toward the Santa Ynez River, the south‐facing lower vineyard features what many consider Santa Barbara County's best Cabernet Sauvignon, in addition to Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah, much in demand by local wineries. The hilltop vineyard produces outstanding Cabernet Franc and Syrah. Small quantities of Petit Verdot and Malbec are grown to provide the Bordeaux accent to our Valley View Cabernet Sauvignon.
