Goat Milk Cheese Chèvre Log, 8 oz.
Laura Chenel’s deliciously fresh goat cheese log is mild flavored with a soft, spreadable texture made in the traditional French elongated shape. It’s the original cheese, when sliced into rounds, breaded and baked, that adorned the iconic Mixed Greens and Goat Cheese Salad made famous at Chez Panisse restaurant in Berkeley, California.
Slice the log into rounds, coat with fine homemade bread crumbs, chopped toasted walnuts or pecans, and bake until browned. Serve atop dressed salad greens – and dream that you are at Chez Panisse sitting in those perfect seats at the front with light streaming in through the windows.
Pairing Notes: A dry Riesling Kabinett with aromatic, slate and mineral characteristics can be an interesting and pleasing pairing with the toasty cheese and crisp greens.
Goat Milk Cheese Cabecou in oil, 6.2 oz jar
Our California original Cabecou is a goat cheese button, aged slightly to give it a nutty flavor and dense texture. Then we marinate the discs in a mixture of savory herbs, organic canola oil and California extra virgin olive oil.
This cheese has it all! It’s creamy yet firm and easy to handle. The tasty marinade is a bonus for your recipes. We love to brush fresh Roma tomatoes with some of the oil from the cheese and roast them in a slow oven until they begin to brown and the flavors are concentrated. We layer the Cabecou on the tomatoes and bake until it begins to brown and soften. Who could resist scooping them up with warm grilled bread!
Pairing Notes: A crisp, light bodied California Pinot Grigio with pepper or arugula notes is a perfect complement.

From the early creation of fresh goat cheese on a small Sebastopol farm to its current home in the new state-of-the-art creamery in Sonoma County’s Carneros region, Laura Chenel’s Chèvre has grown along with America’s increasing appreciation of goat milk cheese. From its inception, Laura Chenel’s Chèvre has been acknowledged as America’s first name in chèvre.
Laura Chenel is the recognized “pioneer” of American goat cheese production. In the late 1970′s and early 1980′s she established the prototype that allowed numerous new goat cheese makers to flourish.
In 2006 Laura sold the company to the Rians Group, a French family of artisan cheese producers with a commitment to the same level of quality, tradition and artisan technique that Laura herself held. She was able to choose a successor who would remain true to the spirit of the brand. Laura Chenel’s Chèvre has become the harmonious blending of French technique and Sonoma terroir.
After selling her goat herd to a California dairy in 2010, Laura fully retired. The creamery employees and the 16 family dairies in California and Nevada continue our deep commitment to the original concept of innovative, quality cheesemaking.
