2010 B Side Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 750ml
- Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon
- Appellation: Napa Valley
- Alcohol: 13.7%
- pH: 3.66
- TA 0.62g/100ml
Three vineyards make up this small, distinctive vintage: the Cabernet Sauvignon comes from two separate vineyards in Rutherford and the Stags Leap District, while the remaining 10% of this wine comes from a Malbec vineyard in Rutherford. Malbec adds a burst of focused berry flavor, complementing the dark fruit flavors from the Stags Leap District and concentrated, earthy notes from the Rutherford terroir. Pair this wine with a venison tenderloin rubbed with rosemary and sea salt, or a grilled porterhouse with roasted fingerling potatoes.
2009 Aquinas Philosopher's Blend, Napa Valley 750ml
- Varietal: Red Wine
- Blend: 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 6% Petite Sirah
- Appellation: Napa Valley
- Vintage: 2009
- Winemaker: Greg Kitchens
- Alcohol: 13.5%
- pH: 3.57
- TA: 6.4 g/L
- RS: 1.4 g/L
The 2009 vintage in Napa Valley enjoyed near ideal growing conditions for much of the season, until some early season storms hit the valley in mid-October. For the most part the vines didn’t experience much in the way of stress, with no real heat spikes or radical temperature swings to speak of. Grapes enjoyed extended hang-time without becoming overripe developing balanced sugars and acidity levels. Wines from this vintage should be characterized by forward, bright fruit with pure varietal character.
2010 B Side Blend, Napa Valley 750ml
- Varietal: Red Wine
- Blend: 49% Cabernet Sauvignon,23% Merlot,16% Syrah,11% Petit Verdot,1% Cabernet Franc
- Appellation: Napa Valley
- Vintage: 2010
- Winemaker: Greg Kitchens
- Alcohol: 14%
- pH: 3.61
- TA: 6.4 g/L
- RS: 3.2 g/L
Bordered by two mountain ranges, the valley stretches approximately 30 miles North to South, one mile East to West at its narrow Northern end and five miles at its widest point near the town of Napa. Its maritime climate—warm days and cool nights—coupled with deep yet not excessively fertile soils makes it ideally suited for the cultivation of premium grapes. The first grapes were planted here in 1838, and today Napa accounts for 4% of California’s total wine production, focusing primarily on the top-end of the wine market.
2011 The Crusher, Clarksburg Petite Sirah 750ml
- Varietal: Petite Sirah
- Blend: 76% Petite Sirah, 13% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon 3% Tinta Cao, 2% Souza, 2% Touriga Nacional
- Appellation: Clarksburg
- Vintage: 2011
- Winemaker: Greg Kitchens
- Alcohol: 13.5%
- pH: 3.69
- TA: 6.6 g/L
- RS: 3.7 g/L
The Clarksburg AVA is an up and coming wine region located in California’s Sacramento Delta. Originally known for row crops like the Sugar Beet, the area was quickly discovered by grape growers attracted by a micro-climate which closely mirrored that of nearby Napa Valley. The soils here are a combination of poorly-draining clay and rich loam, meaning vines experience nutrient-rich, yet sometimes arid conditions. During the growing season, warm days give way to cooling afternoon breezes from the San Francisco Bay, dropping temperatures down 30 to 40°F from their daytime highs. This mass of cool air allows wine grapes to retain more acidity than those grown in similarly warm regions.
- Varietal: Pinot Noir
- 100% Pinot Noir
- Appellation: 87% Sonoma Coast (16% Petaluma Gap, 71% Carneros), 13% Clarksburg
- Winemaker: Greg Kitchens
- Alcohol: 13.9%
- pH: 3.58
- TA 0.63 g/100 mL
The 2010 Pinot Noir is mostly comprised of two different Sonoma Coast sub-appellations; the Petaluma Gap and Carneros regions. The wind and fog are the Petaluma Gap’s trademark. Fruit from this cool climate adds depth and complexity to this medium-bodied Pinot Noir while the Carneros influence provides fleshy fruit notes that linger on the palate. These cooler climates help keep the grape acidity at advantageous levels to balance with the wine’s smooth, soft tannins. This is an all around crowd pleasing Pinot Noir.
- Blend: 22% Grenache, 17% Petite Sirah, 16% Syrah, 15% Merlot, 9% Zinfandel, 8% Tempranillo, 7% Malbec, 4% Barbera, 2% Touriga Nacional
- Appellation: Paso Robles, California
- Vintage: 2010
- Winemaker: Greg Kitchens
- Alcohol: 13.5%
- pH 3.71
- TA 0.66 mg/L
The 2010 Red Blend begins with strawberry-infected aromas with light caramel oak. A wide variety of secondary aromas come from the different grapes in this blend: hints of spice and bramble from Merlot and Zinfandel, and light floral notes from the Grenache, Syrah, and Tempranillo. Pure, jammy fruit forms the core of the flavors on the palate, very similar to the 2009 Grenache-based blend. Grenache lends red cherry fruit flavor, complemented by wild raspberry and pomegranate from the Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, and Syrah. Hints of savory spices, coffee, white pepper, and cardamom add complexity without distracting from the fruit-forward appeal. Medium-bodied and fleshy, with a touch of fresh acidity and tannin for balance, this approachable, appealing red blend is a sure crowd pleaser.
