Merlot Was The Case That They Gave Me

Twelve bottles, six of Merlot and six of Cabernet Sauvignon. That should be enough to inspire cooperation no matter what the beef.

Okay, okay. Guys. Seriously. I know you like the color green and you like the color orange but can't we just put it all past us and make peace? We all gotta get along here in the Napa Valley, right? Look, let's just evenly split things up and see if that helps things.

Okay, Big D, you like the Merlot, right? Bright cherry notes, coffee and chocolate, a little vanilla... okay, you get everything... here. Sound good? Six bottles, 2006, all yours. That's the "turf" you can keep.

And Thirsty T, don't get worried. You've got six bottles too, also from 2006. Dark chocolate aromas, some rose hip, and flavors of plum and tea. Right, plum and tea. Well, good. I'm glad that makes you so happy.

2006 Napa Valley Merlot 6-Pack

Bright fruit notes of black cherry along with vanilla, coffee and chocolate reveal extra dimensions of depth and complexity. Rich and supple, with firm but integrated tannins.

2006 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 6-Pack

Dark and slightly brooding with aromas of dark chocolate, cassis and rose hip. Flavors of currants, black plum and tea are supported by ripe tannins. Black fruit and toasty oak combine to form the lingering finish.

Manually harvested. Picked at optimum ripeness. Hand sorted in the vineyard Aged 18 months in 50% new Bordeaux style French and Hungarian Oak barrels. Racked quarterly to aid the natural clarification.

Production: 6,379 cases

Harvest: Manually harvested. Picked at optimum ripeness. Destemmed and gently crushed into stainless fermentation tanks. Inoculated with Pasteur Red yeast with fermentation completing in 12 days. Pumped over twice daily, the wine was held on the skins for an additional 10 days. Gently pressed in a bladder press, then racked off to barrel. Aged in 50% new oak barrels for 20 months. 90% French, 10% Hungarian. Racked quarterly to allow for natural clarification.

Owner:: Bill Myers
Location:: Healdsburg, CA

Born in Los Angeles, Bill Myers worked as a building contractor and salmon fisherman in Alaska. During the 1970's, Bill relocated to the bucolic town of Healdsburg, California, sold his boat, purchased his first vineyard in the Alexander Valley and began to make wine.

With his newly purchased vineyard, a tiny tasting room and wine production facility just off the square in downtown Healdsburg, Bill started making wines. He quickly became recognized for producing wonderful Chardonnay, Zinfandel and what was to become White Oak's flagship wine: Sauvignon Blanc. In 1991, Bill took home his first Sonoma County Harvest Fair Sweepstakes Award for his 1990 Sonoma County Chardonnay.

Presently, White Oak Vineyards & Winery has nearly 750 acres of vineyards divided between the Napa, Alexander and Russian River Valleys. Roughly 10% of this fruit is used in White Oak wines with the balance being sold to other well known prestige wineries.
