2008 Tercero Petite Sirah
- Alcohol: 14.7%
- Barrel Aging: Aged in neutral French oak for 22 months.
- Composition: 100% Petite Sirah
- Vineyards: Rodneys Vineyard in Los Olivos
The 2008 Tercero Petite Sirah exhibits solid, yet straight-forward aromatics (a trait of this variety) of smoked dark fruits, loamy earth, and toasted spice. This leads to a medium to full-bodied red that has good concentration, a focused, clean texture, and lots of zesty acidity on the finish. As with all of Larry's wines, this improves with a decant. It should drink nicely for 7-8 years.
2007 Tercero "The Climb"
- Composition: 50% syrah / 50% petite sirah
- Alcohol: 14.3%
- Barrel Aging: Aged in neutral French oak for 22 months.
- Vineyards: 50% syrah from the Thompson Vineyard in Los Alamos, and 50% Petite Sirah from Rodney's Vineyard in Los Olivos (Both components kept separate and blended together just before bottling.)
The Climb offers deep black fruits, graphite, earth and spice aromatics, full body, a big, lush texture, impressive balance and a long finish. Lots of big fruit and texture but it also has depth, and will age well. Drink this solid value over the next decade. Dark as night, the perfect marriage of two great varieties! The petite sirah, sourced from Los Olivos, offers up juicy blue fruits with plenty of structure. The syrah, from the famous Thompson Vineyard in Los Alamos, provides dark cherry and blackberry flavors along with complex spicy aromatics. Together, they make a surprisingly fruit-forward complex wine that is ‘open for business’ now but will benefit from cellaring as well.
