Usually we regard it as a bad idea to turn important decisions over to large groups. People don’t do their best thinking in a crowd, that’s just the way it is.

Want to ruin a movie? Sic a focus group on it. Got a clear, bold idea you need muddled? Let a committee work on it. Want the guy from KINDERGARTEN COP to be your head of state? Hold a democratic election. And have you seen some of the designs that win Shirt.Woot’s t-shirt Derbies?

This is just the nature of group dynamics. It’s the lowest common denominator. It’s like—when you hear on the news about a big demonstration where the “mob mentality” took over, it always means violence and property damage. It never means people spontaneously started installing attractive perennial flowerbeds along the sidewalk.

But then there’s you, Wine.Woot community. With respect to this rule about crowds—as in so many other ways—you wonderful oenos are exceptional.

Because when our pal (and world-class winemaker) Scott Harvey sought your input on what should go in (and on) this bottle, you brang it. And by “it,” we mean thoughtful, well-considered input. And by “brang,” I guess we mean “brought.”

So while you swig this dry, traditional zin, round and complex, ever so slightly sweet, and pregnant with big, bold black cherry flavors—congratulate yourselves on two cents well spent. Because you helped make this happen. You determined the blend. You even voted on the label. This is crowdsourced wine 2.0, is what this is. And it couldn’t have turned out so well if you weren’t such clever, clever monkeys. We don’t think it’s just the InZINerator talking when we say: We love you guys.
