Wine.Woot purchases now bypass your cart entirely! This means you gotta buy Wine.Woot items on their own, using your Amazon Payments account. You can't mix 'em up with stuff from our other sites. This cowboy's ridin' solo.

Be aware that anything in your cart from the other Woot sites is still out there and looking forward to your return. We'd hate for anything to sell out while you're reading this.

Brotherly Wine

Revisiting the great debate: wine or mustard?

Mustardini, sometimes I wonder if you'll ever understand.

"But I do, Muscardini! I just don't see how you can compare the taste of wine to the spicy and sweet taste of mustard."

Because wine is more than just a condiment. It is a mix of scent and flavor. Each drop in the glass is its own reward. It is special.

"So is the spice of the yellow mustard and the unique taste of brown mustard on a fresh turkey sandwich."

Once you've tried wine, though, you'll understand. Take my 2011 Sangiovese. Its complex aromas of wild berries, lavender roasted black walnuts, mountain herbs, and spicy cedar awaken your nose, and the flavors of rich cherry, boysenberry, dark chocolate, clover, and balsamic dance on your tongue.

"But what is wine without a food to go with it? Like mustard."

Wine accompanies many meals, not just deli sandwiches. Take the Fortuna red blend, for example. Because it's a blend, there's no limit to the amounts of food it pairs well with.

"But it doesn't go on bread!"

Not everything goes on bread, Mustardini.

"Hmmm, I guess this wine thing is just something I'll never understand."

I guess not.

2011 Sangiovese, Cypress Ranch, Pope Valley, Napa County 750ml

Cypress Ranch in Pope Valley lies high above Napa County where Pat Garvey is one of the best growers in Napa.  This ranch has a small block of Brunello clone Sangiovese.  The wine has complex aromas of wild berries, lavender roasted black walnuts, mountain herbs and spicy cedar.  Rich flavors of ripe red berries, cherry, boysenberry, dark chocolate, clove and a drizzle of balsamic.  This is a very focused wine with supple tannins and a long lingering finish.  Enjoy with family and friends.

Bottled with love, for the joy of living.

It has taken me some time to finally continue and expand upon my grandfather’s tradition in winemaking, but after owning and managing a construction company, Creative Spaces, for 27 years, the time was right. With family and friends, and blessed by Monsignor O’Hara from St. Leo’s Church, I planted our first Sangiovese vines in May of 2000.

As the grapes grew, my son, Gian Carlo, and I built our family home at "Monte Terra." After moving into our new home on May 12, 2001, I began to study winemaking from two local winemakers, and took numerous related courses at UC Davis and Sonoma State University.

With our Sangiovese grapes ready to harvest in 2002, I took our first crop and my new winemaking knowledge and jumped in with both feet (less shoes). Now, with a number of harvests from both Monte Terra and other growers ~ some of the best in Sonoma County ~ behind me, I had honed my skills and won numerous awards, including two Best of Class awards and two Best of Show for my organically grown Sangiovese.

With winemaking in my blood, I asked the question, "Does the world need another winery?" And I thought, "Perhaps not, but the world does need to taste my wine."

Top Comments are discussion forum posts we have deemed worthy of your time. Listen, we get a lot of comments, and most of the time, it's pretty forgettable stuff; but sometimes you rise to the top like butterfat in milk.
