Goat Milk Cheese Chèvre Log, 11 oz.
Laura Chenel’s deliciously fresh goat cheese log is mild flavored with a soft, spreadable texture made in the traditional French elongated shape. It’s the original cheese, when sliced into rounds, breaded and baked, that adorned the iconic Mixed Greens and Goat Cheese Salad made famous at Chez Panisse restaurant in Berkeley, California.
Slice the log into rounds, coat with fine homemade bread crumbs, chopped toasted walnuts or pecans, and bake until browned. Serve atop dressed salad greens – and dream that you are at Chez Panisse sitting in those perfect seats at the front with light streaming in through the windows.
Pairing Notes: A dry Riesling Kabinett with aromatic, slate and mineral characteristics can be an interesting and pleasing pairing with the toasty cheese and crisp greens.
Chef’s Chèvre, 7 oz
The name Chef’s Chèvre is one indication of the 20-year popularity this cheese has had with chefs, caterers and quality foodservice operations. Chef’s Chèvre is our highest moisture, very freshest cheese. It is clean-tasting, smooth, light, tangy and spreadable. The texture of Chef’s Chèvre is very similar to cream cheese and the cooking applications are as diverse, with the benefit of being lower in calories and cholesterol and higher in protein than cream cheese.
For professionals or “home chefs,” Chef’s Chèvre melts perfectly into sauces for pasta and poultry dishes. It mixes well with herbs for topping crostini or filling ravioli and tortellini. Chef’s Chèvre is the preferred cheese in fluffy goat cheesecakes.
Pairing Notes: Sauvignon Blanc is the classic wine pairing with fresh goat cheese – tartness and balanced acidity in both the cheese and wine create a perfect harmony.

From the early creation of fresh goat cheese on a small Sebastopol farm to its current home in the new state-of-the-art creamery in Sonoma County’s Carneros region, Laura Chenel’s Chèvre has grown along with America’s increasing appreciation of goat milk cheese. From its inception, Laura Chenel’s Chèvre has been acknowledged as America’s first name in chèvre.
Laura Chenel is the recognized “pioneer” of American goat cheese production. In the late 1970′s and early 1980′s she established the prototype that allowed numerous new goat cheese makers to flourish.
In 2006 Laura sold the company to the Rians Group, a French family of artisan cheese producers with a commitment to the same level of quality, tradition and artisan technique that Laura herself held. She was able to choose a successor who would remain true to the spirit of the brand. Laura Chenel’s Chèvre has become the harmonious blending of French technique and Sonoma terroir.
After selling her goat herd to a California dairy in 2010, Laura fully retired. The creamery employees and the 16 family dairies in California and Nevada continue our deep commitment to the original concept of innovative, quality cheesemaking.
