Working Together
Come on! It’s not that hard. One of you dusts, the other one vacuums, I’ll get started on the laundry and, honey, you can pick things up and take out the trash. We’ll be done in no time! What do you say? Anyone? Anyone at all?
You see, this is the problem with our family. We’re lazy. I can’t even get you all to look up from your phones or videogames or eReaders long enough to even acknowledge each other’s presence, much less get things done around here. If Audrey and Barry Sterling’s family had been this way, there’d be no Iron Horse Vineyards, you know. Their children didn’t sigh and moan when their parents handed them the reigns of one of the most prestigious independent family owned wineries in Green Valley, OH NO. They got up and they worked together to produce the great sparkling wines they’ve become known for.
Take this 2006 Classic Vintage Brut, for example. Do you think Joy Sterling whined about being too tired or too busy posting things to Facebook to learn how this wonderfully rich and creamy Brut is made? Of course not! She spent her days making memories that she’ll cherish for a lifetime just by spending time watching her folks perfect the ripe red apple, yeast, and lime flavors contained within the bottle.
And I bet you anything that Laurence Sterling wasn’t so fixated with some warfare video game that he couldn’t be bothered to help out with the 2006 Russian Cuvée. In fact, I bet he was more than willing to learn the secrets of making such an opulent, slightly sweet sparkling wine that gives you caramel, vanilla and warm milk on the nose while exciting the taste buds with mandarin orange and custard flavors combined with a creamy mouthfeel.
Those kids? They grew up to be the CEO and the Director of Operations of Iron Horse Wineries. I’m not even asking you to do THAT much. I just want the house to look nice every once in a while! We’ll even get ice cream afterwards! Can we do it? Aw, forget it. Just hand me a glass and a wine opener.
