You’ll Flip For It
There’s a young lady arriving at my door in just a few minutes, George. She’s pretty awesome. So awesome, in fact, that I that I thought I might try to make dinner for her tonight. So far, everything’s turned out great! I didn’t burn the pasta sauce, my noodles are perfect, and I’ve even got homemade chocolate mousse chilling in the fridge.
But it’s this wine thing, Mr. Washington. I just can’t decide which of the wines in this Expression 44° Pinot Noir 2-Pack I should open first, and I’m afraid I’m going to screw up big time. That’s why I’m asking you for help.
The first wine is a 2006 Expression 44 Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills, Willakia Vineyard. This one’s a library release, George, highly limited and pretty special. Made during a particularly optimal harvest year, its pure, ripe aromas of violet-tinged currant and blackberry along with supple earth, spice, and red and blueberry flavors are incredibly unique. It’s only our third date, though, and I’m afraid opening this one might make her think I’m trying too hard.
On the other hand, there’s this 2007 Expression 44 Pinot Noir, Roserock Vineyard, which is pretty great, too. Bright and lively scents of red fruit, delicate spice and ripe raspberry flavors, and supple tannins are sure to impress her, but will she resent me later when she find out I held back the first wine? Ugh! It’s so hard to decide!
Alright, Mr. Washington, here we go. Whichever one you decide, I’ll open. I’m putting a lot of trust in you here, but I figure if you were good enough to lead the Colonies during the Revolution, you should be able to pick a wine with no problem.

2007 Expression 44 Pinot Noir, Roserock Vineyard
Bright and lively red fruit aromas with a note of candied cherries and spice that follows through to the palate. Delicate spices, mineral and ripe raspberry balance the layers of elegant ‘sous bois’ on the mid-palate. A ribbon of mushroom and forest floor speak to a classic Burundian profile – though the core of bright red fruit is all new world. Supple tannins, sweet fruit and spice characterize the finish.
