If it works for beer…

You could call him AN interesting man, I don’t know about the MOST interesting man.

He once had a dinner party, and only about a third of the people he invited showed up.

He often spends Friday nights at home, wishing someone would call him to do something fun, but then he doesn’t answer his phone when someone DOES call.

He likes to wear cargo shorts. In 2012.

He once ordered a 4-Pack of 2008 Ethan Wines Edna Valley Grenache because he read about its flavors of bright red fruit and cherries.

He worries that someday his doctor’s going to tell him to cut back on salt, but he’s not doing anything to prevent it now.

He spends more money on booze than rent.

He is…the average Wine.Wooter.

“I don’t always drink wine, but when I do, it’s because I got a great deal on some Internet deal-a-day site I frequent. And seriously, I drink a LOT of wine.”

“Keep Wooting, I guess. If you want. I don’t care.”

Always drink responsibly. And Woot irresponsibly.

Features

2008 Ethan Wines Edna Valley Grenache 750ml 4-Pack

The wine is medium bodied with a lighter color to it due to the gentle press and light extraction of tannins, making this a great red for summertime and warmer weather.  It displays bright red fruits and cherry notes.  It also has a subtle back bone of Asian spices with a nice zip of acidity.  This would pair well with Asian dishes and dishes with a little spice to them, or a back yard barbecue with a sweet and spicy rub or sauce.  It is drinking great right now and I expect it to age nicely for 3-5 more years.

Ethan Wines was founded in 2001 by Ethan Lindquist who is the son of Rhone pioneer Bob Lindquist, owner of Qupe Winery.  Ethan grew up in the vineyards and winery and always took an interest to tasting wines and learning about them at a very young age.  He even helped stomp the first Qupe Wines in 1982 and helped on the bottling line as a child.  He went into the viticulture and enology program at Santa Rosa Junior College to learn the more technical aspects of winemaking.  His father taught him all aspects of the business growing up which helped create a well-rounded knowledge of the business as well as a developed palate, important for winemaking.  In 2001-2002 he made his wines while working side by side with Greg LaFollete, who at the time owned Tandem Winery in Sebastopol, located in Sonoma County.  Here he learned different techniques of winemaking to help create a style of his own with his wines.

Ethan focuses on making four wines;  Syrah, Grenache, Sangiovese, and Grenache Blanc.  Everything produced is in very small production at between 100-300 case lots with total production being just under 1000 cases.  Old world techniques are used with minimal handling and manipulation to the wines.  The belief is that a great wine is started in the vineyard and the fruit is all sourced from organic and biodynamic vineyards.  Ethan is trying to express each grape and the unique terroir that these grapes come from.  The wines are now produced in the Santa Barbara County and grapes are being sourced in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties.
