Wine.Woot purchases now bypass your cart entirely! This means you gotta buy Wine.Woot items on their own, using your Amazon Payments account. You can't mix 'em up with stuff from our other sites. This cowboy's ridin' solo.

Be aware that anything in your cart from the other Woot sites is still out there and looking forward to your return. We'd hate for anything to sell out while you're reading this.

Marketing Team Brainstorm Session #642

"Alright, Marketing Team. Here's the deal: It's now an undisputed fact that a certain rainbow-flavored fruit candy makes you play professional football unbelievably well."

"That's right, Marb. We'd like to capitalize on that concept for the Canihan Estate Pinot Noir. So it's time to brainstorm: What can this fine wine help our customers accomplish at an elite level? Go!"

"Blind butter tasting."

"Adjective selection!"

"Snake charming."

"Cockroach wrangling?"

"Seasoning stews!"

"Jumping on furniture and pretending the floor is made of lava!"

"Tying a scarf."

"Breaking down boxes."

"Professional football!"

"Jars."

"Okay, got some great ideas here. Say Marb, have we got a spokesperson lined up for this initiative?"

"Yeah, somebody from some wine website. We've only got their username right now. Looks like they're called 'North316.' A veritable expert on all things, it would seem."

"Ah, perfect. Nice job, Marketing Team! Let's hawk some grapes!"

[Applause and fist-bumps.]

Features

2011 Canihan Family Cellars Estate Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast 750ml 2-Pack

This elegant Pinot Noir is made from our dry-farmed vineyard located on the border of the Carneros and Sonoma Coast appellations.  You'll find lush aromas of strawberries, raspberries, rose petals and violets followed by a long, rich and velvety finish.

It takes exceptional grapes to make award-winning wine. Our unique terroir, meticulous organic & dry farming practices, along with minimalist winemaking intervention result in exceptional wines.

Lush and jazzy aromas of ripe strawberries, raspberries and rose petals fold into bright cherry fruit and perfumes of dried violets and spice. Wonderfully rich with exemplary balance and the velvety mouth feel of outstanding Pinot Noir.

Vineyard Notes: Our 7.75 acres of Estate Pinot Noir are dryfarmed and certified organic, and lie on the border of Sonoma Coast and Carneros. Our original 3.75 acre vineyard is comprised entirely of French Dijon Clones 115,667 & 777. Our second vineyard, planted in 2005 includes Dijon clones 828, 115, 667 & 777 along with approximately 5% each of Pommard, Wadenswil, Swan & Masson clones. The vineyard experiences the full impact of San Francisco Bay's cooling fog in the summer. Ned Hill & Phil Coturri's biodynamic vineyard management practices along with dry-farming and cane pruning result in small yields (less than 1.5 tons per acre) of the highest quality grapes. The vineyard is certified organic by CCOF.

Canihan Family Cellars

Owner:
The Canihan Family
Founded:
1998
Location:
Sonoma Valley

The Canihan Family produces award-winning Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Cabernet Franc from our certified organic estate vineyards in the heart of the Sonoma Valley. Because we border on the Los Carneros Appellation, the vineyards receive the cool evening breezes and early morning fog from San Francisco Bay that provide for perfect grape growing conditions resulting in flavorful wines expressive of our “terroir”.

Although our vineyards were first planted in 1998, we had nurtured the land for more than 30 years. William Canihan Sr. purchased the land from a Basque farmer in 1975. Because of our commitment to the land and organic practices, we let nature cleanse the soil for 23 years. We planted 1103 Paulsen, SO4, and 101-14 rootstocks, and the following spring we field grafted Pinot Noir French Dijon clones 115, 667 and 777, Syrah clone 1, and Cabernet Franc clones 4 and 7.

This year, our new four-acre Pinot Noir vineyard will yield fruit from clones including Pommard, Wadenswil (Domaine Romanee–Conti) 2a, Masson, Joseph Swan, and Hanzell.

Our vineyard manager, Phil Coturri is also currently managing the vineyards of Hanzell, Merus, Moon Mountain and Arrowood wineries. Mr. Coturri has an excellent reputation for his organic and biodynamic practices which are best judged by their results.

Top Comments are discussion forum posts we have deemed worthy of your time. Listen, we get a lot of comments, and most of the time, it's pretty forgettable stuff; but sometimes you rise to the top like butterfat in milk. We don't recommend you base your self-worth on how often we feature your comments, but we don't expressly forbid it either.
