C.G. Di Arie 2005 Zinfandel "Southern Exposure" 750ml 2-Pack
The “Southern Exposure” designation for our wines denotes that we feel the wine has very special qualities. This is the fourth year in a row that we are making this Zinfandel wine. Our 2005 version of this wine which was also made from grapes mostly coming from the Original Grand Pere Vineyard is worthy of becoming a member of the Southern Exposure family of wines.
The "Southern Exposure" designation for C.G.Di Arie wines denotes that they feel the wine has very special qualities. This is a complex and elegant wine displaying rich fruity aromas of dark berries combined with spicy notes and hints of black and white pepper. On the palate the dark berry flavors quickly crescendo to layers of black cherry, plum and cassis. The long finish has spicy notes with hints of cardamom which makes this wine very exotic. The 2005 “Southern Exposure” Zinfandel has the elegance and complexity found in wines of great pedigree.
This wine like most of our other wines was made in our Submerged Cap Fermentation Tanks. This method keeps the berries submerged in the wine during fermentation for better flavor extraction and softer tannins.
C.G. Di Arie 2006 Zinfandel "Southern Exposure" 750ml 2-Pack
The "Southern Exposure" designation for our wines denotes that we feel the wine has very special qualities. We feel the 2006 Zinfandel, sourced from the very best Shenandoah Valley vineyards including the Grandpere and Gunther, is worthy of this designation. The Gunther vineyard is approximately 41 years old while the original Grandpere vineyard contains vines over 139 years old. Their roots quietly dug deep down into granite soils once again, as they have for over a century, to produce exceptionally complex fruit. We took this fruit and utilized our thoroughly modern stainless steel Submerged Cap Fermentation Tanks to fully extract every nuanced flavor from the berries. We then aged the wine in French oak. Throughout the process we were careful to minimize harsh tannins, while still providing a solid backbone for ageing potential.
Deep violet in color the wine has an elegant nose that begins with blackberry, plum, and dark cherries. Under this dark fruit are opulent layers of vanilla, cedar, anise, spice, and dried flowers. Layers of cracked black pepper, cloves, and briar accompany the rounded tannins. The wine finishes with velvety smoothness and sweet cherries.
