Wine.Woot purchases now bypass your cart entirely! This means you gotta buy Wine.Woot items on their own, using your Amazon Payments account. You can't mix 'em up with stuff from our other sites. This cowboy's ridin' solo.

Be aware that anything in your cart from the other Woot sites is still out there and looking forward to your return. We'd hate for anything to sell out while you're reading this.

To Those Who Wait

You’ve been waiting all day to get home and enjoy a glass of wine. What’s twenty more minutes going to hurt?

Think of all the things you can do in the twenty minutes after you’ve decanted these Berberana Viña Alarde Spanish Rioja wines as you wait for their aged character to truly come alive. You could peacefully reflect on your day. You could start reading that book you've been dying to get to. You could uncomfortably sit through enough of an entire episode of Animal Hospital to know that you never EVER want to see it again and still have time to wipe the tears of shame from your eyes.

You could even prepare a nice pasta or roasted pork dish that would go well with the subtle red cherry aromas and red fruit and tobacco flavors of the 2001 Reserva. Or how about a tomato dish that you could pair with the well-balanced roundness of the 2003 Reserva? Why, one could open a bottle of the 2001 Gran Reserva, pour a couple glasses, then call a nearby friend and convince them that coming over to share in its harmoniously smooth characteristics is way better than watching Animal Hospital. ‘Cause it is. Seriously.

However you decide to spend twenty minutes before enjoying the four bottles within this Berberana Spanish Library Vertical, just remember: Animal Hospital isn’t worth your time. I’m sure there’s an episode of Bridezillas on that’d be way better.

Features

1999 Berberana Viña Alarde Spanish Rioja Reserva 750ml

Clear but brick red in color.  The nose possesses early aspects of earthiness that give way to essences of stewed red fruits after decanting.  The tannins remain present yet are noticeably mellowed with age. The earth notes continue on to the palate with subtle hints of tart cherry pie.  Silky and elegant finish that underscores the maturity of this wine.

2001 Berberana Viña Alarde Spanish Rioja Reserva 750ml

Typically bricky in color from lengthy bottle aging.  After decanting and 20+ minutes of oxidation, the nose reveals subtle notes of red cherries.  Soft on the palate, the structure of the wine still shows through with mild tannins and intriguing tastes of tobacco, earth and red fruits.  The finish is supple and elegant.  This wine should be consumed with foods such as tapas, pork dishes and lighter red sauces.  Excellent as an aperitif with sharp hard cheeses and salumi.

2003 Berberana Viña Alarde Spanish Rioja Reserva 750ml

Deep ruby red, showing qualities from oak aging. Round and full, well balanced, long and elegant. Pairs well with roast meats, pastas, tomato dishes, barbeques and game.

2001 Berberana Viña Alarde Spanish Rioja Gran Reserva 750ml

Deep ruby red, with tawny hues. This Gran Reserva has a subtle aroma derived from aging in both oak barrels and bottle. Harmonious and smooth yet full-bodied, this wine has classic characteristics of a Gran Reserva.  Pairs well with roast meats, pastas, tomato dishes, barbecues and game.

Please note: We highly recommend you decant and aerate all these wines for 20 minutes to truly enjoy their aged character.

Gran Reservas are kept in American oak casks for 36 months. Following this cask aging the wine will then be aged in bottle for a further 3 years.

Top Comments are discussion forum posts we have deemed worthy of your time. Listen, we get a lot of comments, and most of the time, it's pretty forgettable stuff; but sometimes you rise to the top like butterfat in milk. We don't recommend you base your self-worth on how often we feature your comments, but we don't expressly forbid it either.
