Features

2011 Memaloose York's Reward 750ml 6-Pack

We find blended wines compelling, and offer this one in the spirit of the many rustic assemblages of (often indigenous) varieties one encounters in more rural wine growing corners of Europe. Primitivo and Barbera are natural complements, the one trading tannin and flesh for the other's acidity and dark intensity. Dolcetto lends fragrance especially, and a certain matter-of-factness.

There are vintages to collect and squirrel away, and others to drink in the meantime. 2011 in the Columbia Gorge was of the latter sort. Accordingly, cellar work was dedicated to delivery of these grapes' juicy, vibrant side. Fermentation was conducted entirely by resident yeast bacteria (i.e. A fully "spontaneous" affair). The wine was raised in steel and in old barrels, as a matter of texture. Unapologetically handmade.

Ravishing alongside a composed salad topped with warm chicken livers. These grapes are genetically predisposed to accompany the tomato; they are notably nimble and refreshing with Spanish-speaking fare. And with its alcohol content around twelve percent., York's makes an exceptional lunchtime selection.

"York's" is named for the slave who accompanied the Lewis and Clark expedition.
