Features

2009 Woot Cellars D’ONTSPILLE LE BLACK 750ml

Aromas of huckleberry, raspberry, strawberry, blackberry, cherry, cola, graham cracker, brown spice, bark, loamy earth, dry leaves on a forest floor.  Flavor / texture is bright fruit, almost ethereal lightness, velvety texture, lingering tart cherry - berry fruit.

2010 Woot Cellars Vinito del Finito 375ml

2010 Denier-Handal Vineyard Zinfandel, Late Harvest.  Deep purple robe – quite dark for a pure Zinfandel.  A veritable cornucopia of red and black fruits: raspberry, blackberry, currant, blueberry, dried cherry, along with black pepper and an intense dark chocolate aroma.  Great concentration and power in the mouth.  The shriveling of the grapes  concentrated flavor, tannin and acid, which all balance the residual sugar nicely.  This gives it a clean, slightly tart finish, not at all cloying or syrupy.  So delicious I couldn’t bring myself to spit while writing my tasting notes.  Aging potential of several years at the least.

Peter Wellington
Location:
Glen Ellen, CA
Wellington Vineyards is owned Peter Wellington. Peters father John, purchased the winery site in 1986. At the time, it consisted of 20 acres of old vines and a few decrepit old fruit and nut trees. Replanting of part of the old vineyard and orchard started in 1988. The winery was completed in time for the 1989 crush. We grow approximately half the grapes we use and purchase the remainder, primarily from small, unique vineyards.

The estate vineyards consist of 21 acres, 8 of which are 85 to 117 years old. There are 24 different varieties in the old vineyard, with the most common being Zinfandel, Carignan, Alicante Bouschet, Grenache and Syrah. In addition, there are 10 acres of eleven to sixteen year old vines that consist of Merlot, Chardonnay, Marsanne, and Syrah. We grow more Merlot than anything else. Three more acres were replanted in 2001, predominantly to Syrah, Zinfandel and Grenache.
