Taking Hold Of The Means Of Production
That’s probably a statement that Maria Belmonte would agree with. Born in Italy, Maria and her husband Vittorio moved to Kenwood, California in 1976, opening a family cafe. She impressed her critics and her customers, getting attention from In Style Magazine and Wine Spectator. So why would she rely on some stranger to give her wine? Why wouldn’t she turn to her brother-in-law Henry Belmonte, now overseeing the VJB Vineyards, and keep it in the family?
We’re thrilled to be offering this VJB Vineyards & Cellars Red 2+2 Pack. Two bottles of two wines for a total of four delicious reds, all made by a real Italian family (and God knows, Italians know their food and wine). You’ll be getting the 2007 Rosso Family Blend and the 2007 Mendocino Barbera, covering your needs for everything from “with food” to “with friends” and back again.
The Rosso Blend is bright red, and dark, with brooding fruits. We’re not sure what that means, but that’s what they’re calling it, and isn’t that great? Like drinking a glass of Neil Gaiman, this 2007 red will be plummy, jammy, with black cherries and raspberries down to a core of coffee and chocolate spice. It’s a wine that works anywhere, imposing its broody nature with anything you might choose to serve… or nothing else at all!
Of course, the Barbera is a bit more specific. Medium ruby coloring with bright red fruit, pronounced tannins and acidity, it’s perfect for- what else? Italian food! Sausage, red sauce, spicy flavors, this is a red that’s won the Silver in the 2009 Denver International Wine Competition, and it’s ready to drink or to age.
There’s good wine out there, but if you want something to do with food, don’t bother looking at vineyards. Look at restaurants! The VJB Vineyards & Cellars Red 2+2 Pack was made by people who know how to eat. It’s only fair to assume they know what to drink as well.
