2004, 2005, 2006 Twisted Oak Murgatroyd 750ml
With a name like “Murgatroyd” you might expect this wine to smell and taste like a pink mountain lion. While this wine is as dry and intense as a night in the desert, and its spice and herbal aromas might be the result of a romp in the sagebrush, nothing could be further from the truth. Bright aromas of plum and blueberry, and full fruit flavors of raspberries, currants and vanilla, are certainly nothing like a pink mountain lion. Then again... why is he pink?
But a more important question may be: How can ALL three of these vintages taste the same? A Murgatroyd should taste like a Murgatroyd year after year. It's characteristic of blended scotch as well as of blended wines. Wineries actually strive diligently to make it consistent. Twisted Oak succeeded.
Food Pairings: Murginade, marinade tri-tip in Murgatroyd, soy sauce, ginger, honey - anything with a big marinara sauce - stinky cheeses or a nice cigar.
2008 Twisted Oak Murgatroyd 750ml
Bright aromas of raspberry and red currant, and full fruit flavors of raspberries, cassis and black cherry. Okay... so the 2008 varies a bit from the previous vintages. Rest assured this wine, like its predecessors, is also dry and intense with aromas of spice and herbs. Pairs well with Murginade! Marinade tri-tip in Murgatroyd, soy sauce, ginger, honey. Anything with a big marinara sauce - stinky cheeses or a nice cigar. Lamb Osso Bucco? Heavens to Murgatroyd! Asian style marinated Flank Steak, served over a bed of angel hair pasta with horseradish cream.
