Features

2010 The Vegan Vine Sauvignon Blanc, Central Coast 750ml 5-Pack

A very pale straw color and crystal clear.  On the nose, aromas of bright citrus fruit, wet grass and lemon rind.  A mouthwatering acid on the palate gives way to grapefruit, herbs and lime rinds. A refreshing wine that pair well with foods.

About Vegan Vine Wines
The Vegan Vine Wines are grown and produced by Clos LaChance Winery, a family-owned operation located in the Northern Central Coast of California. Clos LaChance was founded in 1992 by Bill and Brenda Murphy. Today they work side-by-side with their two daughters to ensure the tradition of the winery continues to flourish.

Clos LaChance is proud to be Certified Sustainable by the California Sustainable Winegrower’s Alliance. Certification for the winery and 150 acres of Estate vineyards was obtained in 2010. The Vegan Vine was developed when a family member had some questions regarding the use of animal products in winemaking . He was curious if Clos LaChance’s wines were suitable for his animal-free lifestyle. After meeting with the production team, it was determined that we could make a line of Vegan wines that were high quality—and educate Vegans in the process.
After working with various government agencies, Clos LaChance was able to develop an acceptable package that would achieve the goal of educating Vegans and other interested parties about animal products that are often used in wine production.

Fruit sourced from the Clos LaChance estate in San Martin.  The 80 acre estate was planted in 1999. Hot sunny days throughout the growing season, coupled with  cool ocean breezes in the evenings, allow for increased grape hang-time, and the further development of flavors and complexities.

In Vegan wine, we do not use any animal products for fining and clarification of the wine (no gelatin, casein isinglass or egg whites) in the production of the wines.  We allow the wines to naturally settle out the undesirable particles.  We also have the benefit of a climate and terroir that leaves us with a softer naturally occurring wine.  Cooler nights and milder days allow the grapes to balance the acidity on the vine prior to wine production.  The excess compounds that need to be removed are done so with sterile filtration, which promotes the freshness of the wine.

Clos LaChance

Owners:
The Murphy Family
Founded:
1987
Location:
San Martin, CA
In 1987, co-owners Bill and Brenda Murphy decided to plant a few rows of Chardonnay in their Saratoga backyard, both for landscaping purposes and to realize their dreams of being small-scale vintners. A few years later, the wines produced from this small backyard vineyard were good enough to sell to the public. It was at this point that Clos LaChance formed into a commercial winery. The first released wines were from the 1992 vintage. The next 15 years would take the Murphy’s from 200 cases of wine produced to 80,000; 3/4 of an acre to 150 acres planted and 20 full-time and 25 seasonal employees.

Clos LaChance Winery takes its name from the small fenced-in area encompassing a vineyard (Clos) and from co-owner Brenda Murphy’s maiden name (LaChance). The Murphy’s chose the Hummingbird as the winery’s symbol for both its aesthetic beauty and its ability to keep other birds away from the grapes.

Together with their daughters, Bill and Brenda have created a multi-generational, family-owned and operated winery. It is their dream that the third generation will eventually take over the business.
