(3) - 2013 Sextant Zinfandel, Central Coast 750ml
90 Points Wine Enthusiast
Luscious intensity of blackberries and pomegranate in appearance and depth. Fine notes of briary and dried thyme for an herbaceous periphery. The dual sensation of biting into a firm but dark ripe plum while also sampling a slice of boysenberry pie. Smooth tannins with structure and depth make for a bold and yet flowing style. Cinnamon and nutmeg add complexity to the potent and undulating finish.
With fruit sourced from our San Ardo Ranch (just north of Paso Robles, CA) this Zinfandel (75%) was blended with Petite Sirah (25%) for color. Planted on the highest peak, these chalky soils produce fruit of intense flavors and unique mineral qualities. Fermented in stainless steel and aged 11 months in oak cooperage.
(3) - 2013 Sextant Wheelhouse Zinfandel, Paso Robles 750ml
Vintage after vintage, the Sextant Wheelhouse Zinfandel reveals itself with grace and potency. Delectable blackberries flow freely on the mid-palate as dark cherries jostle on the back-palate. Inklings of rose petal, smoky cedar, tobacco, and toasty hazelnut join the profile as well. It is bold and keen with flavors, but yet so balanced in structure. The acidity is poised and the tannins are finely integrated giving way to an unrelenting, enduring, and monumental finish.
With fruit sourced from our RBZ Vineyard, this Zinfandel was blended with Petite Sirah and Syrah. Aged 20 months in 16% new Hungarian, French and American oak barrels.
