Family Matters
Wine is in our blood. Figuratively speaking, of course. Not literally. How weird would that be, right? Like you could attach some sort of spigot to our veins and just let the good times roll! Ha ha! Not that we've tried to do that or anything. We didn't mean to give you that impression. Is that what you thought we meant? Because we totally didn't mean that. That would just be insane. But not like certifiably insane. Just really kinda crazy funny, ya know?
We just meant that it's a family thing. But not like a weird family thing that you only see in remote Appalachian populations, like those people who were born with blue skin because they kept passing down some really rare genetic trait. Did you hear about that? It was wild. But not like legitimately wild. Hope you don't take offense to that. We didn't mean to insinuate that those people are like wild animals or anything. We know they're just regular people like the rest of us, only with blue skin.
We're just talking about a tradition of wine making in our family. It's our heritage. Hence the name, Schug Heritage Reserve. Speaking of which, we think you're really going to enjoy this threesome. Oh. Oh my. We did it again there, didn't we? We didn't mean like the sexy fun time kind of threesome. We were just talking about our trio of reds: Merlot, Cabernet and Pinot Noir. Although if you were thinking about the other kind of trio, this wine would probably be a pretty good way to break the ice and… you know what? It's none of our business. We're going to just stop talking now.
Features
2007 Heritage Reserve Carneros Merlot 750ml
Schug Winery's Heritage Reserve Merlot is blended in the Bordeaux tradition using Cabernet Sauvignon for maximum complexity. The Merlot is sourced from the cool Carneros region, where the extremely long growing season allows this varietal to ripen slowly, developing maximum varietal character and depth of flavor while retaining bright acidity. It has a spicy bouquet of lavender and mint, rich deep color and full-bodied flavors of cherry, cassis and chocolate. Try it now with lamb, duck and rich cheeses, or age it for 5 to 7 years.
2007 Heritage Reserve Sonoma Valley Cabernet 750ml
From 1973 to 1982, Walter Schug made some of the most memorable Cabernet Sauvignons and Bordeaux-style blends in California history while winemaker for Joseph Phelps Vineyards in the Napa Valley. His own Bordeaux blend exhibits the same finesse, intensity and ageability that have made his earlier wines unique and valuable collector’s item. This complex wine has dense color and structure and features bright aromas of violets and blueberries, with ripe fruit flavors reminiscent of cherries, chocolate and cassis. Well-integrated tannins, oak and acidity give it a rich texture and a long, elegant finish. It drinks well on release paired with rich meats and cheeses, however this wine will continue to improve with careful cellaring for up to 10 years.
2008 Heritage Reserve Carneros Pinot Noir 750ml
Schug Winery set aside the finest barrel lots of their Carneros Pinot Noir for extended aging to create their "Heritage Reserve" Pinot Noir. Each vineyard lot was chosen to express its own individuality in harmony with the final blend. The result is a limited bottling that is as rich and powerful as it is graceful and charming. A bouquet reminiscent of roses, warm cherries and Kirsch liqueur leads to rich flavors of black cherry, cranberry, and hints of lavender, all finishing with hints of tobacco and spicy new oak. This wine is perfect for the collector's cellar, and will continue to age gracefully for up to 10 years.
