2016 Poizin Zinfandel, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County
Deep ruby and purple in color, the bright nose exhibits plums, blackberry scones and raspberry Danish.   The rich yet not overripe flavors of red-vine licorice, blueberry cheesecake, black cherry and red currants are full-bodied and true to the varietal.  Petite Sirah in the blend contributes black pepper spice and firm structure.  Sixty percent of the Zinfandel comes from old, old vines ranging from 85-110 years old.  This adds an ethereal concentration of flavors and colors from dry farming these ancient vines.  A judicious use of toasty oak barrels from forests all around the world, adds subtle vanilla bean, supple tannins and a caramelized smoky nuance.

Enjoy this Poizin with caution; it is The Wine to Die for!
