Navarro Vineyards Pinot Noir Grape Juice
Our goal, whether for wine or juice, is to produce something that is flavorful, true-to-variety and grown in a sustainable manner. In spite of the fact that we are harvesting Pinot Noir grapes that otherwise could be made into more expensive wine, harvesting for juice is fun; it gives us a preview of the upcoming harvest. We harvest Pinot Noir for juice at the same level of ripeness as sparkling wine; harvesting them earlier would result in less flavor and harvesting them later would make the juice too cloying. We cold filter these juices almost immediately so that the snappy fruit flavors of the harvest remain fresh; our Pinot tastes of strawberry and rhubarb with a little tang to the finish.
Navarro Vineyards Gewürztraminer Grape Juice
Gewürztraminer is Navarro's flagship grape and each year our first picking of this aromatic grape is destined for our juices. Gewürztraminer's spicy aromatics make it a particularly fun grape to share with youngsters, or oldsters, or anyone who wants to avoid alcohol. It is bottled in a traditional wine bottle with a cork finish, so you can use a wine cork screw to open the bottle with a flourish. The grape juice is overtly floral with seductive tropical flavors that make it delicious drunk straight, over ice, or mixed with sparkling water. We even freeze it for "gewürz-ickles" as a treat for our own grandkids.

During the grape harvest, visitors to our tasting room are typically surprised by the Gewürztraminer and Pinot Noir clusters and berries. Wine grape clusters are small, typically weighing about four ounces, with tiny berries that measure about a half-inch in diameter. Not only are the clusters and berries small, but wine-grapevines are shy producers, especially for fine wine production, yielding about four tons per acre as compared to an apple orchard which produces up to thirty tons of fruit per acre. The scant production, small clusters and tiny berries are attributes that have been deliberately selected by vineyardists over the centuries; these qualities facilitate making intensely flavorful wines, so it should come as no surprise that Navarro's Gewürztraminer and Pinot Noir juices are mighty flavorful. The grapes for juice are destemmed, pressed and the juice chilled down to about 32°F to prevent fermentation. Over the next couple of days, we cold-filter the juice rather than heating it, retaining all the fresh-fruit flavors.
Navarro's 2017 verjus is produced from Anderson Valley Chardonnay grapes harvested early to retain the grape's natural acidity. Unlike most commercial verjus, this juice tastes like it was just harvested and Chardonnay's varietal apple-citrus flavors make it a perfect replacement for lemon juice or vinegar in recipes and salads. All three juices are available in 750 ml bottles and should be refrigerated after opening.
