Named for the Norwegian goddess of love & fertility, this wine is pale straw in color, the nose begins with white blossoms and raw honey backed by a hint of melon rind. Swirling releases pear and honeysuckle with Marcona almonds. The palate is rich, broad and balanced, offering a creamy texture that balances the acid nicely. A hint of residual sugar is apparent on the palate, but it adds weight and leads the wine to the finish. This wine can go with almost any food, with the exception of the heaviest of meats because of the great acidity and the weight on the palate.
2010 Altruism Riesling, Columbia Valley 750ml 3-Pack
Pale golden yellow, with notes of spring blossoms, green apple and a warm waxy tone. Swirling releases green pear and honeysuckle with a hint of spice. The palate is bright, vibrant and deliciously sweet. The initial pop when this wine hits your palate is exhilarating and softened with sweetness much like the German counterparts.
Released May 2012, a portion of the proceeds of Gård Altruism Riesling will be donated to the National MS Society, Greater Washington Chapter, whose goal is to educate, inspire and empower those affected by Multiple Sclerosis.
2010 Dry Riesling, Columbia Valley 750ml 3-Pack
Bright golden yellow, a nose of honeysuckle, spice and lemongrass. The nose is rich and dense showing great depth and persistence. Swirling reveals an addition of pastry but this wine is too young to let out all of its detail. The palate is bright, round and superbly balanced. A Riesling built to age, and should show beautifully for the next 6-8 years.
2010 Altruism Pinot Gris 750ml 3-Pack
Pale golden yellow color, with a nose of honeydew melon, pineapple core and some waxy dried stone fruits. Swirling brings up more weight, but a spicy tone at the same time. The palate is clean, fruit forward and slightly off dry. The acidity balances the sweetness nicely and provides the framework for a great summer white.
