Oh, it’s not for everyone. But if you esteem the flavor of the pressed olive above all else in life – indeed, even above your own aversion to pain – then a tumbler full of olive oil is one of life’s most sublime pleasures.

Kosterina Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
One ingredient. Pure. Simple. Look no further for the real thing.
Kosterina Olive Oils are made in small batches from a single blend of early-harvested Greek olives. Grown in Crete, Greece — the perfect climate for olive trees — our olives produce an oil that has a smooth, fruity flavor. Kosterina oil is cold pressed from early harvest olives, which means the olives are collected when green and raw. The higher chlorophyll content in unripe olives makes the oil richer in healthy polyphenols – the antioxidants that have been proven to have anti-inflammatory and heart and brain-aiding effects. In order to be deemed extra virgin, oil needs to have polyphenol content of 55 mg/kg. Kosterina EVOO has 381 mg/kg. Unfortunately, many oils that you’ll find in your local supermarkets are marketed as extra virgin but are in fact, just blends of premium oil with lower quality oil. With Kosterina, we guarantee you are getting nothing but 100% early harvest, organic, extra virgin olive oil.

The Kosterina Difference: True extra virgin olive oil is packed with “good fats,” like omega-3s, and is high in polyphenols, a type of natural antioxidant that protects our body’s cells and tissue. In order to be considered extra virgin, olive oil must have a polyphenol content of 55mg/kg. One of the highest classifications we've seen — ultra-premium extra virgin — can be no lower than 130 mg/kg. Kosterina olive oil has 381 mg/kg — that’s nearly triple the health-enabling powers. By replacing butter and vegetable oils with ultra premium extra virgin olive oil, you’re making a better, healthier (and more delicious!) choice for your family.

Kosterina
Kosterina olive oil is of the “Koroneiki” variety, which means the olive trees and seeds originated in Koroni, Greece, the hometown of Katerina’s family. Our olive oil is cold pressed from early harvest olives, which means the olives are collected when green and raw. The higher chlorophyll content in unripe olives makes the oil greener and richer in healthy polyphenols. Early harvest oil is called “agourelio” in Greek.
Unfortunately many oils that you’ll find in your local supermarkets are marketed as extra virgin but in fact, are actually blends of premium oil with lower quality oil. With Kosterina, we guarantee you are getting nothing but 100% early harvest organic extra virgin oil.

My husband and I both grew up with olive oil at the center of our family dinner table and now, as adults living in New York City, we rely on care packages of olive oil from our relatives back in Greece to maintain this tradition. When we inevitably run out of the good stuff, I head to the supermarket only to be disappointed with the so called "extra-virgin" oils that just don't compare in taste or quality. I created Kosterina to take the guesswork out of shopping for quality olive oil and to share our family secret with you. I believe that home cooks in the U.S. use too much butter and vegetable oil in their dishes so I'm looking to educate consumers on the power of polyphenols and the enormous health benefits of premium extra virgin olive oil.
With love from my family to yours,
-Katerina
A little bit more about us
Our families are both from the Pelopponese region of Greece. My family is from a small, beautiful fishing village called Koroni, which is about one hour's drive from Kalamata. (Yes, Kalamata, as in Kalamata olives). Koroni is the home to the Koroneiki variety of olives — one of the most popular varieties in Greece. We were married in Koroni in 2014. My husband's family is from the western Peloponnese region of Laconia — also very well known for some of the best olives in Greece. We have a love for food and eat most nights at home with our friends and family.
