2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Lawrence Vineyards, Columbia Valley
Dark spices with brooding plum skin, black currants, dried black tea and tobacco. Swirling brings up black raspberry, dried strawberry, ripe plum and juniper berry. The palate is dense and polished with dried berries and dark spice. More Old World in style with its fine silky tannins and great length and freshness. Perfect for Cabernet lovers who want to drink, not chew, their wines.
The Winemaking: Sourced from Lawrence Vineyards, harvested October 27 & 28, 2012. Block 8, Corfu Crossing, Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 6, Block 1, Laura Lee, Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 6. Aged 19 months in 65% new French oak. Optimum drinking window: Fall 2015 until 2020.
The Cabernet that makes up the majority of this wine is grown on Taunton silt and helps keep the alcohol down and the flavor profile more complex and savory.
The Vineyard: Lawrence Vineyards is the estate vineyard that produces all of the wine grapes for Gård wines and other premium wineries in Washington state. Lawrence Vineyards is located in the Columbia Valley AVA on the picturesque Frenchman Hills. Vineyard elevation (1,365-1,675 ft.) and a southern-facing slope provide ideal conditions for growing fine wine grapes.
Gård, meaning "farm" in many of the Scandinavian languages, is a tribute to our family's Scandinavian heritage and farming tradition.
Gård Vintners is a family-owned and operated winery that seeks to capture the quality of their estate vineyard in the glass. The Lawrence family, founders of Gård Vintners, has been farming the Royal Slope, near Royal City, Wash., in Washington's Columbia Valley for over 45 years. Brothers Hervey "Sandy" Lawrence and John Lawrence, along with John's son Josh Lawrence, were proud to launch Gård Vintners, a product of Lawrence Cellars, in 2006.
