Cultural Divide
"Hey, what's up, Chuck! I thought that was you."
Oh, hello Jim. Actually, it's Charles now. I haven't gone by Chuck since … well, I've actually never gone by Chuck. You just randomly started calling me that one day in 6th grade.
"Good story, Chuck. So how've you been? I see you've moved to the big city and you're some fancy pants-wearin' big shot now. Guess I'm gonna have to start callin' ya Big City Chuck."
That really won't be necessary. So, why are you here, Jim? I never would have guessed that art galleries were your scene.
"Oh yeah, I'm all about culture and junk. I'm loaded with it. Ha ha. Only kiddin'. I'm just here for the free wine and cheese."
Yes, and what do you think about this evening's selection? Personally, I find the aromatics to be bright and lively. And the way its delicate spices, mineral and ripe raspberry balance the layers of elegant 'sous bois' on the mid-palate, perfection.
"Uh …"
And the ribbon of mushroom and forest floor, classic Burundian profile. Though the core of bright red fruit really is all new world. Fascinating dichotomy, don't you think?
"Well I don't know about all that, but I sure do like how it gives me a little red mustachio every time I take a drink. So what're we s'posed to be lookin' at here?"
The exhibit is called Expression 44°. It's a political commentary on the injustice of class warfare instigated by a socialist agenda that operates under the guise of a free democratic state.
"Huh. Just looks to me like a fella standin' in his skivvies with his leg all propped up at a weird angle."
It's art, Jim. It's very subjective.
Features
2007 Expression 44° Pinot Noir, Roserock Vineyard 750ml 2-Pack
Specs
- Varietal Content: 100% Pinot Noir
- Appellation: Eola – Amity Hills
- Vineyard: Roserock Vineyard
- Cases Produced: 475
- Roserock® is LIVE and Salmon Safe Certified
- Alcohol: 13.5%
The warm 2007 growing season at Roserock Vineyard produced pristine clusters of Pinot Noir. After de-stemming, the whole berry fruit underwent a prolonged cold soak, followed by gentle fermentation in small batches. The resulting wine demonstrated exotic primary aromas which were then enhanced by 11 months of barrel aging in French oak barrels, one third new. Reductive winemaking techniques preserved the delicacy and precision of the wine. This elegant wine is marked by a regal combination of pure fruit and sous bois flavors together with a balanced acidity and ripe, supple mouthfeel.
Roserock is perched on a ridge top towards the southern end of the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. It was designed, developed and is now farmed to produce high-end wine grapes. As part of those efforts the vineyard is farmed in accordance with the best practices laid out in Oregon’s LIVE (Low Input Viticulture and Enology) and Salmon Safe program. This is not only more environmentally responsible, but it is a valued characteristic of the vineyard since sustainable farming is increasingly being recognized as an important factor in producing high-end wine.
