Wine. Not A Lumberjack

We would like to take the moment to correct all misconceptions that this Domaine Pouillon Washington White Blend chopped down a cherry tree.

There have been several rumors going around lately, and we want to address them before they get to a point where they out of control.

It seems there's a growing concern that this wine, which we would like to reiterate is innocent, chopped down a cherry tree and then admitted to doing so. But that was George Washington, not this Domaine Poillon Washington White Blend.

We know, we know, both names have the word Washington in it, so yes, it's an easy mistake, but the Washington who chopped down the cherry tree was a general, first president and a founding father of the United States. This wine, on the other hand, has bursts of Anjou pears, minerals, and peach stone that accompany a long, creamy finish with distinct citrus notes.

Again, we see the similarities, and we understand how you could get confused, and who knows, maybe you didn't, maybe you knew all along, but again, we wanted to end these rumors before things got out of control.

Features

2011 Deux White Blend, Columbia Valley 750ml 5-Pack

The flavor begins on a high note with balanced acidity and then yields bursts of Anjou pears, minerals and peach stone.  A long creamy finish with some distinct citrus notes.

This Chardonnay/Viognier combination is a nod to one of Alexis Pouillon’s favorite ‘Villages’ in France – Ardèche (a ‘department’ in south-central France named after the Ardèche River, north of Orange), where their white Vin-du-pays is most commonly a Chardonnay/Viognier.

Domaine Pouillon welcomes you!  Our family-owned and operated winery nestles into the beautiful Columbia River Gorge near Lyle, Washington. Each year we produce 3500 cases of premium wine and 50 happy chickens (maybe one or two cranky ones…)

We currently have 2.5 acres of our estate, called Reed’s Lane Vineyard, planted in Syrah, Viognier, Roussanne, and Marsanne.  There are no chemical sprays used in our vineyard and we encourage our vineyard partners to reduce their usage.  We source fruit from McKinley Springs, Coyote Canyon, Brehm, Jewett Creek, and Columbia Country Vineyards.  All of our fruit is hand-picked in the early mornings of September and October and then trucked to our estate in Lyle.  The grapes are then sorted, de-stemmed, crushed, stomped, fermented and squeezed in our 900 sq. ft winery.  Whites and reds are fermented and aged in French neutral oak barrels using yeast that we have cultured here at Domaine Pouillon.  Our whites are in barrel for 9-12 months and the reds 11-22 months.  When the wines have finished the fermenting and aging process, they are then racked into blending tanks and minimally filtered (if at all) before being bottled by hand.

We do not fine our wines. No artificial stabilizing, clarifying, chaptalizing, or acidification takes place.  We simply try to pick the grapes when they are at their optimum ripeness for making wine and then gently guide them through the fermentation process.  We believe this makes for an approachable, enjoyable, honest bottle of wine.
