Features
2012 Tempranillo, Ziegler Vineyard, Hood River 750ml 3-Pack
From the Ziegler Estate on Underwood Mountain, this is cooler climate Tempranillo with amazing acidity, sturdy tannins, herbaceous quality and great fruit notes. This Spanish varietal is right at home growing in the Columbia River Gorge.
Cathedral Ridge Winery 2012 Ziegler Vineyard Tempranillo has spicy notes of tobacco, raspberry fruit leather and cocoa nibs with sturdy tannins and an herbaceous nose. Aged in neutral oak barrels for 22 months this wine has delicate oak nuances with underlying hints of cherry, strawberry and cinnamon. The taste is bright but soft and earthy with a balanced acidity that makes it a perfect wine pairing food. A wonderful complement to hard cheese and cured meats as well as roasted pork tenderloins and grilled vegetables.
From Underwood, WA in the Columbia Gorge AVA comes this beautiful single vineyard wine. The Ziegler family has been farming in the area for decades and to this day it is a family affair. We at Cathedral Ridge are fortunate to have close bonds with the family and can acquire their beautiful grapes. This south facing vineyard benefits from the warm sunny days and cool river breezes at night that make the Columbia Gorge an optimal growing region.

Cathedral Ridge Winery
- Location:
- Hood River and Dundee, OR
We are blessed to be in a growing region where both rainforest and desert can be found within close proximity. Just west of Hood River in the Columbia Gorge we receive 130 inches of rain/year but 20 miles east of us near The Dalles, OR, only 10 inches fall. This allows us to grow grapes representing the four great wine growing regions of the world (Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhine and Rhone) all in our backyard. Almost nowhere else in the world is this possible. This proximity means that all our grapes are picked, transported, crushed and in the tanks fermenting within about six hours and, as everyone in the industry knows, grapes hate to travel.
We are also especially lucky to have as our winemaker a fourth generation Sebastiani in Michael. He has spent his whole life with wine and brings his skill and art to Cathedral Ridge Winery.
