2012 Buck Shack Red Wine Blend, Shannon Ridge, Lake County, California
"The most pronounced varietals in this blend are Zinfandel for structure and richness. Petite Verdot for color and tannin. Merlot and Cab Franc for aromatics, and a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon for fun." - Joy Merrilees, Director of Winemaking
Nested deep in our vineyards stood a dilapidated 100 year old skinning shed called the "Ye Old Buck Shack". We loved the beauty and history of this old building. We restored it and converted it into a whiskey bar on our property called "Sheep Camp". The shack looks and feels like an old Western movie and it serves as a special place for us to gather and use bad judgment.
Vintage 2012
The 2012 vintage was a warm relief from the preceding cold and rainy 2010 and 2011 vintages. A healthy crop and easy growing season provided us with the quality of fruit to lift our spirits and get excited about easy winemaking. The long, warm summer weather was perfect, with no major heat spikes and little rain to speak of.
Barrel Aging and Winemaking
We, the winemakers, picked the very best fruit from all of our finest vineyard sites....after a bottle of whiskey. In honor of using bad judgment, we laid these wines down in some expensive new barrels and let it age. What came from it was dangerous deliciousness in a bottle. Be careful with this one, don't get in trouble.
