Where are Box Brew Kits made?
All of our kits are handmade locally in the Boston area. Our shop is located just outside of Boston in Waltham, MA. As well, all of our lumber is locally sourced from the New England area.

Does a Box Brew Kit include everything I need to get started?
Box Brew Kits include everything you need to brew beer, mead, and cider (or wine, in our wine-making kit) - the only thing you’ll need to provide is a stockpot big enough to hold about 6-8 quarts of water (if you’ve made pasta at home, you probably already have one!).

I've never brewed beer before. What's the process like?
We do our best to make the process fun and easy. Even if you’ve never tried brewing before, you'll have a great time learning how. We have videos of the brewing process online, and we’re always available via phone or email to help with your brewing questions. Find the best ways to contact us on the About Us page.

What do I do if my brew kit arrived and a piece or component is broken?
We pack and ship your order as carefully as possible but accidents do happen, and some packages are treated more roughly than others. Don’t fret - if you open your package and find anything broken or damaged, please send us an email with a photo of the damage and we’ll send a replacement to you as soon as we can, on the house.

How do I use One-Step No Rinse Sanitizer?
Proper Use: 1 Tbsp/gallon water or 5oz/10 gallons. Ideal contact time is at least one minute, followed by mechanical action such as water spray, brushing, or wiping. If cleaning heavily soiled surfaces, a rinse is necessary to ensure the removal of all soils. If One Step is used on a surface which is clean to the naked eye, rinsing is optional. Residues of One Step are non-hazardous when small amounts come into contact with wort of must.

One Step Removes: The residues of home fermentation hobbies on glass, metal, and plastic surfaces. Use One Step to clean mash tuns, boiling vessels, fermenters, chillers, spoons, rakes, fermentation locks, and any other equipment that is used in the brewing, winemaking, or fermentation process.

How It Works: One Step consists of a buffered alkalinity and active oxygen. When dissolved in water, the result is an alkaline solution (approximately pH 9.5) presenting 0.1 percent free oxygen and 1000 ppm alkalinity (as Na2O).

Each of our home-brewing kits celebrates the rustic roots of home-brewing, and no two are exactly alike. We have multiple sizes available, capable of brewing one to three gallons of beer or wine in about three weeks. Enjoy!

Mike Langone: I first discovered brewing five years ago. It was love at first brew. However, the brewing process left much to be desired. It was a ungainly process involving ugly plastic fermenters, a messy kitchen and thoroughly disgruntled roommates. I figured there had to be a better way to brew, one that would look at home in any environment and celebrate the process rather than hide it. In January 2013 I designed the first Box Brew Kit (then called Hopbox). It was everything I wanted a brewing kit to be: stylish, portable, and accessible. I wanted to inspire people to brew, to experiment with new recipes, to feel the satisfaction that comes with sharing something you have made with family and friends.

Matt Gorman: Mike and I have been best friends since kindergarten. We developed a shared love of beer over the years, so when he got into homebrewing I naturally reaped the rewards of free beer. After a few years of mooching, I finally decided to try my hand at brewing. My first brew was done with a Box Brew Kit, and I immediately fell in love with both the process and the product. I have always had a passion for entrepreneurial pursuits, and I have never been more excited than I am about this project. BBK turned me into a novice yet enthusiastic homebrewer my first session, and I am eager to share my experience.
