Safety First, Wine Later

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRINK THIS WINE WHILE LYING DOWN.

The following is some very important safety information regarding the Blackford Napa Valley Cab Vertical:

1. Never attempt to drink this wine while lying down. You're likely to miss your mouth, and you'll get it all over your favorite pillow and that's just sad.

2. Never attempt to drink this wine while sitting atop an elephant. You need to keep your wits about you whenever sitting atop an elephant.

3. Always chew every bite 30 times before swallowing.

4. Wait 30 minutes before returning to the pool.

5. Enjoy the ripe raspberry jam aromas, vanilla and hint of tobacco, but do not attempt to smoke it.

6. Never feed a mountain goat after midnight EST.

7. If you see a saturated garnet color with purple edges in your glass, it's just the wine.

8. If you see the face of Andy Rooney in your glass, you've had too much wine.

9. Never feed a mountain goat after midnight EST.

10. We know we already said that last one, but it's like, SUPER important.

Features

2002 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 750ml

To capture my favorite attributes of Cabernet Sauvignon, I used grapes from two quality vineyards; one located on the valley floor and the other perched on a hillside on the east side of Napa valley.  The pretty, aromatic, cherry end of the cabernet spectrum married to the stuffing and structure that hillside vineyards provide.  Old School House Vineyard east of the town of Napa provides the valley floor component and Snider Vineyard located off of Soda Canyon Road to the northeast of Napa contributes the depth of flavors and structure that hillside vineyards do so well.

Saturated garnet color with purple edges. Ripe Raspberry jam aromas, vanilla, hint of tobacco. Rich, mouth-filling with supple tannins. Good length.

2003 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 750ml

To capture my favorite attributes of Cabernet Sauvignon, I blended grapes from two quality vineyards; one located on the valley floor in southeastern Napa Valley and the other perched on a hillside above.  The pretty, aromatic, cherry end of the cabernet spectrum married to the stuffing and structure that hillside vineyards provide.  Old School House Vineyard east of the town of Napa provides the valley floor component and Gloria Vineyard located off of Soda Canyon Road to the northeast of Napa contributes the depth of flavors and structure that hillside vineyards do so well.

Young in appearance, red currants, cocoa, vanilla, very youthful and structured; good sweet core of fruit with good supporting tannins.

Beautiful purplish/garnet color, cigar box accents on ripe black fruit: cherries, plums. Medium-full bodied, supple mouthfeel with soft supporting tannin.

Blackford Winery

Owner:
David Cronin
Location:
St Helena

After leaving Indiana and earning a Geology degree at Colorado College, David proved to his parents that he was capable of both getting a job and procrastinating in getting a real job by working the harvest at Niebaum-Coppola. Fascinated by wine and undeterred by slave wages, he enrolled at UC Davis to study Enology and Viticulture. He worked the 1984 harvest at Joseph Phelps, and then earned a spot at Far Niente, where he founded their Late Harvest program, Dolce, and served as Winemaker from 1985 to 1993.

John Buehler recruited David in 1993, and they celebrated their 13th Harvest together in 2005. When he is not crafting Buehler’s sumptuous wines, David tends his own small winemaking venture, Blackford, which specializes in Sonoma Coast Chardonnay and Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
