Vineyards
Our 2014 vintage Zinfandel grapes were cultivated from some of the finest old vine vineyards from Sonoma County’s world famous Dry Creek Valley. The 2014 Vintage Reserve is predominantly Zinfandel (94%) with small lots of Grenache (3%) and Petite Sirah (3%). The Grenache contributes a nice spiciness while the bold power of the Petite Sirah complements the depth of flavor and structure of this delicious Reserve Zinfandel.
Located in Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley is the preeminent area for growing Zinfandel in California. The appellation, one of the smallest in California, is just 16 miles long by two miles wide. Dry Creek Valley’s warm summer days, tempered by morning fog from the Pacific Ocean and its well-drained, stony soils, help develop highly-concentrated and complex Zinfandel fruit. The 2014 Vintage of Zin-Phomaniac Reserve Zinfandel perfectly reflects the concentration and complexity that has made the Dry Creek Valley so famous among winemakers and Zinfandel lovers.
Vintage
Sonoma County enjoyed a spectacular 2014 growing season. Winter rains in February and March contributed to an early growing season. A moderately warm summer led to perfect ripening of the grapes and harvest commenced in September. The wines from this vintage are best characterized as intensely aromatic with ripe fruit, fine tannins and deep, rich color.
Winemaking
Hand-picked and destemmed Dry Creek Valley grapes were gently pressed followed by pump overs during fermentation for enhanced flavor development and color concentration. Post fermentation the wine experienced a short period of extended maceration further enhancing the flavor and color. Subsequently the wine was transferred for twelve months aging into a combination of new and seasoned French and American oak.
