We’ll Leave It Up To You
You’ve got that record nobody ever wants to hear. You’ve got that show that went off the air too early. You like your beef cooked this way, your vegetables cooked that way, and even though you put up with the majority opinion, you know in your heart that you’re just making do. If everyone else jumped off a bridge… well, you’d be willing to give it a shot, but you’d probably ask if there was any way you could possibly jump off a nearby cliff instead.
The 2006 Woodenhead Zinfandel, Martinelli Road Vineyard, Old Vine, Russian River Two-Pack has the delicious taste of Bing cherry, dark chocolate, blackberry and mocha. It has a nose with hints of rose and violet with some plum and dark cedar. But when you get hit with the mid-palate tastes and the long finish… we’ll just say it’s just not going to be for everyone. Only a select sort will be able to full grasp this classic Barolo-like Zin. We’re not saying you won’t, you understand, we’re just saying that this is a wine for the road less traveled.
But if it’s your thing, be aware: that second bottle is going to age pretty well. Drink the first and cellar the second and you’ll be pulling out a real treasure in years to come. Unless, of course, you’re one of those people who enjoy keeping up with the pack. And there’s nothing at all wrong with that.
After all, not everyone can appreciate the 2006 Woodenhead Zinfandel two pack. And it’s just meant for those who will.

History in a bottle. The venerable one, 124 years old this vintage. Not for everyone, but a classic Barolo like Zin that rivals any century vine Zins produced in California, period. Dark ruby in color. A nose of roses and violets framed by dark berries, plums, cedar and blackberry briar as only RRV can give. The palate screams blackberry, Bing cherry, dark chocolate and mocha notes. Unmistakable terroir. This is a special place for these vines. Not for the faint of heart. Expressive mid-palate and long, long finish. Moderate tannins. It will of course benefit from cellaring, but it's delicious now.
