Our Summit Syrah is a classic, complex and age-worthy style. Saturated ruby red color leads into intense, plush fragrances and flavors of black raspberries, red berries and licorice with hints of sweet toasted vanilla mocha, roses and violets. Our mountain summit vineyard is known for full-bodied wines of substance and smooth structure. This is an age-worthy, unfiltered, unfined wine exhibiting a great site.

2011 Windsor Oaks Malbec, Mountainside Block 35, Chalk Hill
Silver Medal – 2014 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
Silver Medal – 2014 Critics Challenge

Our unfiltered, unfined Malbec is hedonistic. Deep black-garnet color and fragrant aromatics fill the glass. Silky layers of creamy red and blue berries blend with spiced blackberry and hints of vanilla mocha. Plush texture and bright fruit end with a long, balanced finish. It truly reflects the intensity of its mountain vineyard, nurtured by a passion for grape growing and authentic hand-crafted winemaking.

2012 Windsor Oaks Mountain Cuvee, Chalk Hill
Full bodied and brimming with dark red fruit, this wine exhibits the complex character, concentration and outstanding structure for which the Chalk Hill growing region is well known. Each grape variety reveals itself in layer after layer of rich, ripe blackberry and cassis, subtly framed be fine grained tannins and well integrated oak. The structure and long finish of this wine make it a perfect match for grilled meats and hearty dishes. Our Mountain Cuvee truly reflects its mountain grown origins, our passion for farming and authentic, hand-crafted, estate winemaking.

Windsor Oaks Vineyard & Winery

Founded:
1991
Owner:
Bob & Renee Stein
Location:
Sonoma County, California
At Windsor Oaks, we take pride in producing ultra-premium wines from our estate vineyards located within three of California's most famous wine appellations;  Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast and Chalk Hill. Located in Sonoma County, overlooking the Russian River Valley, our 710 acre estate boasts many diverse micro climates, including rare soil and slope combinations. Our grapes benefit from the diverse characteristics of these distinct climates and terroirs.  Approximately 350 acres are dedicated to "Forever Wild Open Space", while the remaining 250 acres are planted with eighteen different varieties of grapes. The result is a long-standing tradition of growing ultra-premium grapes for a number of top-tier wineries that produce highly awarded wines.

We handcraft small quantities of our own wines under the Windsor Oaks label, produced from hand-selected vineyards and blocks on our estate. Our award-winning wines are available in limited quantities to wine club members, visitors to our estate, or through our new online Wine Shop. Our estate is only open to the public eighteen days a year. We invite you to visit us and explore our wonderful estate and wines. Please visit our Events page for a list of upcoming events, as well as our by-appointment-only Tours & Tastings.

Due to our world-class viticultural location and unusually spacious acreage with highly diverse terroir, Windsor Oaks represents a rarity in wine country. It is a wine lover's dream, where both viticultural and winemaking experts worked together over many years, sparing no expense to create vineyards producing the best quality fruit.  The mix of carefully planted vineyards combined with the significant 'Forever Wild' acres of beautiful ancient oak trees and wilderness create an inspirational environment.

The vineyards of Windsor Oaks are located in Sonoma County, in the foothills and benchlands overlooking the Russian River Valley, between the cities of Santa Rosa and Healdsburg. The entire property is in excess of 700 acres, of which approximately 350 acres have been deeded to the Sonoma County Open Space District and are designated "Forever Wild". The remaining 250 acres are uniquely situated in both the Russian River Valley and Chalk Hill appellations, representing two of the most recognized growing regions for outstanding quality wine grapes.

Windsor Oaks has always been a passion; a journey the owners Bob Stein and his wife Renee want to share. For the past 20 years, under the stewardship of Bob and his estate manager Douglas Lumgair, Windsor Oaks has flourished. Julie Lumgair has been responsible for the crafting of all Windsor Oaks wines made through the 2011 harvest, while 2012 saw the addition of Margaret Davenport, well known for her work at Clos du Bois and Passalaqua, as winemaker.

With a deeply connected customer following, the objective has been and will continue to be, to explore the full potential of the Estate grapes by selling them to highly regarded wineries for their own fine wines and by producing small lots of hand crafted wines.

While holding to so much that has drawn existing and devoted customers to this hidden gem, there is a commitment to exploring new winemaking opportunities, hospitality facilities and guest experiences in keeping with a renewed Estate Vision. It is the aim of Bob and Renee Stein to bring together talented individuals that understand the highest standards of food and wine production and service; a team that will leverage all of the unique elements and essence of this little-known 710-acre Sonoma County Estate; a team that embodies the stewardship of our journey for all future visitors to the Estate.

Bob is looking forward to taking a more active role in the management of the Estate, and has already begun the process to expand its horizons. Most notably, Douglas will continue his long-term relationship and management of the estate vineyards and farming, with Margaret heading the winemaking team.
