Run Run Cuvee

Not to be confused with Windsor Oaks Elementary School in Virginia Beach, VA.

"Hey, Crobert, you wanted to see me?"

"Ah, yes, Harold. Please have a seat."

"Uh-oh. Sounds serious."

"Harold, I realize your past relationship with WineFancy was severed under somewhat mysterious circumstances, but we wanted to give you a solid chance to shine here at New Country Wine Digest.

"I know, Crobert, and I sure do appreciate the opportunity."

"Yes, well. I wonder if one of the criticisms you received at WineFancy was your unorthodox terminology to describe wine."

"What? What's wrong with my descriptions?"

"You said the Windsor Oaks Chalk Hill Mountain Cuvee was 'like a jug of warm apple-milk brew from days of yore'."

"What about it? You've never had apple-milk brew?"

"No, Harold, nobody has."

"Plenty of people have where I come from."

"Is that also true of the part where you said the wine is 'redolent of sweet Nyquil that reminds one of favorite childhood memories'?"

"Of course, Crobert. You didn't have Nyquil nights when you were a kid?"

"Again, that's not a thing. Lastly, Harold, you mention the 'mouthfeel delivers a silky sensation not unlike the tendrils of my grandmother's finest wig'."

"Oh come on. You're gonna tell me that's wrong?"

"Harold, it's so messed up that I don't even KNOW if it's wrong."

"Fine. How about something like, 'richer than Grade A owl meat'?"

"Get out of my office."

2011 Mountain Cuvee, Chalk Hill 750ml 3-Pack

Full bodied and brimming with dark red fruit, this wine exhibits the complex character, concentration and outstanding structure for which the Chalk Hill growing region is well known.  Each grape variety reveals itself in layer after layer of rich, ripe blackberry and cassis, subtly framed be fine grained tannins and well integrated oak.  The structure and long finish of this wine make it a perfect match for grilled meats and hearty dishes.

Our Mountain Cuvee truly reflects its mountain grown origins, our passion for farming and authentic, hand-crafted, estate winemaking.

Since 1991, Windsor Oaks Estate has been one of the viticultural crown jewels of Sonoma County, encompassing 225 acres of ultra-premium, sustainably grown winegrapes on a 700 acre private estate. The vineyard is uniquely situated, extending from the renowned Russian River Valley into the mountain vineyard blocks that produce the famous red wines of the Chalk Hill appellation.

We proudly supply more than 35 vintners with our hand harvested grapes, with over 25 limited production vineyard-designated wines from Windsor Oaks. Each year we select grapes from some of our top blocks and make a few barrels of our own. This highly selective process only uses 10% of the Estate’s grapes. Each wine is 100% Estate grown, produced and bottled in very small lots of one to twelve barrels, less than 2,000 cases per year.

Specs

In The Vineyard: 2011 was a cooler year, producing wines with great structure and aging ability. The three grapes used in this blend, Syrah (56%), Sangiovese (26%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (18%), were all grown on our upper blocks, on highly eroded Dibble gravel and volcanic soils, above the fog line where they receive maximum solar exposure.

In The Cellar: Each block was picked, hand sorted and fermented separately, using different yeasts, to best express the individual character of each grape. Similarly, the lots were aged in different styles of French oak barrels for varying times depending on the nature of the grape, prior to bottling.

Tasting Notes: Each grape variety reveals itself in layer after layer of rich, ripe blackberry and cassis, subtly framed be fine grained tannins and well integrated oak.

  • Production: 280 cases
  • Varietal Composition: Syrah, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Appellation: Chalk Hill
  • Alcohol: 14.4%

1991
Location:
Sonoma County

At Windsor Oaks, we take pride in producing ultra-premium wines from our estate vineyards located within three of California's most famous wine appellations;  Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast and Chalk Hill. Located in Sonoma County, overlooking the Russian River Valley, our 710 acre estate boasts many diverse micro climates, including rare soil and slope combinations. Our grapes benefit from the diverse characteristics of these distinct climates and terroirs.  Approximately 350 acres are dedicated to "Forever Wild Open Space", while the remaining 250 acres are planted with eighteen different varieties of grapes. The result is a long-standing tradition of growing ultra-premium grapes for a number of top-tier wineries that produce highly awarded wines.

We handcraft small quantities of our own wines under the Windsor Oaks label, produced from hand-selected vineyards and blocks on our estate. Our award-winning wines are available in limited quantities to wine club members, visitors to our estate, or through our new online Wine Shop. Our estate is only open to the public eighteen days a year. We invite you to visit us and explore our wonderful estate and wines. Please visit our Events page for a list of upcoming events, as well as our by-appointment-only Tours & Tastings.

Rare Estate Vineyards
Due to our world-class viticultural location and unusually spacious acreage with highly diverse terroir, Windsor Oaks represents a rarity in wine country. It is a wine lover's dream, where both viticultural and winemaking experts worked together over many years, sparing no expense to create vineyards producing the best quality fruit.  The mix of carefully planted vineyards combined with the significant 'Forever Wild' acres of beautiful ancient oak trees and wilderness create an inspirational environment.
