nice day

"Wine is one of the most civilized things in the world," Ernest Hemingway once said. That's why we drink it while we eat nachos and throw sock grenades at each other. Without wine? Childish. With wine? Cultured.

2013 White Wedding Sauvignon Blanc, Sonoma County 750ml 4-Pack

Gravenstein apple and Meyer lemon greet the nose with floral notes of peach blossom. Sweet pineapple and tree fruit flavors are supported by fine-tuned minerality and an intriguing spice note. A luscious mid-palate expands into a rich, lengthy, and complex finish.  The Chardonnay provides a lift to the wine’s tree fruit aromatics.

White Wedding Sauvignon Blanc is made from premium California grapes and is crafted in a time-honored manner, paying homage to Old World winemaking. A “kiss" of Chardonnay has been blended into the wine, adding structure and complexity to the fresh fruit flavors. Two white grapes, happily married.

Harvest Conditions: The warm 2013 growing season allowed for the development of balanced fruit.  Most of the Sauvignon Blanc fruit, 94% of the blend, is sourced from a vineyard in the Russian River Valley appellation of Sonoma County. This vineyard resides on ancient alluvial fans of impoverished soils that contribute intense fruit character. In addition, we include 6% Chardonnay fruit from a cool climate vineyard in Sonoma Carneros, which imparts vibrant acidity and finesse.

Food Pairings: This medium-bodied, balanced wine complements cheese and vegetable appetizers, shellfish, tuna or chicken salads, and Asian food.

Specs

Fermentation & Aging: Hand-harvested fruit was whole-cluster pressed into stainless steel tanks (2/3) and French oak barrels (1/3) to build complexity. The tank fermentations were kept at cold temperatures to preserve the freshness of the fruit. Secondary fermentation was suppressed. After eight months of aging, the wine was blended and then bottled three months later.

  • Alcohol: 13.5%
  • Total Acidity: 0.57 g/100ml
  • pH: 3.52

Bravium

Derek Rohlffs is Bravium Winery’s Proprietor & Winemaker. Derek graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara with the high GPA in its trailblazing Environmental Studies program. He took winemaking coursework at UC Davis, including its Wine Executive Program. Derek was greatly influenced in his early winemaking by a retrospective tasting he experienced at Mayacamas Vineyards during his first visit to Napa Valley. His father Duke attended High School with Bob Travers, who invited Duke and Derek to join him and his wife Noni for a tasting of their 1970’s and 1980’s era Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vitality the Mayacamas wines possessed and their renowned ageability captivated Derek.

Later, when Derek was launching into his Pinot Noir winemaking, he had the good fortune to meet Kevin Harvey and Jeff Brinkman of Rhys Vineyards. Their focus on the primacy of the vineyard provided a great example of what California Pinot Noir and Chardonnay can be when grown in the proper sites and handled minimally in the winery. Jeff’s input led Derek to find hillside and mountaintop vineyards with relatively shallow soils and to produce Bravium wines in a traditional manner.

Bravium produces vineyard designated, traditionally-crafted Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grown in hillside and mountaintop vineyards under its flagship label. Derek employs simple winemaking techniques - gravity-moving wines and bottling his red wines unfined and unfiltered - allowing the source fruit to remain at the forefront, vine to bottle. "The longer I make wine, the more I subscribe to a 'less is more' approach," Derek has said.

Bravium’s vineyards are located in the relatively cool areas of Anderson Valley, Carneros, Mendocino Ridge, Santa Cruz Mountains, and Sonoma Coast. Roger Scommegna's Signal Ridge Vineyard, Mendocino Ridge's highest elevation planting at 2,642 feet above the Pacific Ocean, Brad Wiley’s eponymous vineyard in Anderson Valley’s “Deep End,” and Gary Franscioni’s famed Rosella’s Vineyard in Santa Lucia Highlands highlight Bravium's ever-growing Pinot Noir program. He also produces a Rosella’s Vineyard Chardonnay. Rohlffs has also partnered with the Abbassi Family to produce Sonoma Carneros Chardonnay from vines planted in 1975 and worked with them on the planting of three new Pinot Noir vineyard blocks on an adjacent plot.
Bravium wines are produced in small quantities and are sold direct to mailing list members and in select retail and restaurant placements. Derek also owns Outlier Wine Co., which features a wide-ranging roster of distinctive wines, from Proprietary White and Red Blends - White Wedding and Lucky - to varietal bottlings. These wines have much larger production. Lucky and White Wedding have consistently been the No. 1 and No. 2 “Most Popular” boutique red and white wines on Wine.com.

Outlier Wine Co.

Additional wines produced by Outlier Wine Co. include Carefree, Character, Chardonnais, Commitment, Dearest, Formidable, Funkytown, High Stakes, Midnight Oil, Noiro, Outlier, Ramblin’ Man, Red 7, Sachem, Summercloud, and Sunlight.

Bravium Winery is located in San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood and Outlier Wine Co. is located on Treasure Island, in the middle of San Francisco Bay. Bravium gives back to charitable organizations by way of its Sip&Give donation platform. The name Bravium (Latin for “reward, prize or gift”) dovetails with the Sip&Give campaign that Derek made a part of the winery’s DNA at its founding. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of all Bravium and Outlier Wine Co. wines support Sip&Give. Sip&Give features a variety of worthy charities including the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Community Gatepath, Peninsula Humane Society/SPCA, Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation, and Slow Food USA.
