Sea Glass. Sea Glass Break.

Officer, officer! Calm down! There’s a perfectly good explanation for why I’m out here on this beach drinking bottles of White Oak wine and then smashing them with a rock; it’s because I like to help people!

You see, sea glass is becoming harder to find these days since companies are making more and more products out of plastic. Well, I just happen to have all these bottles of 2006 Myers Reserve Red Wine at home, and I was feeling a little bit greedy hoarding all that glass, so I thought, “Hey! Why don’t I break a few bottles down and introduce some new shards into the ecosystem?” And now here I am, just helping out the collectors and the artisans! On a private beach! At 1am!

Oh but of course, I needed to drink the wine before smashing the bottles, officer. Don’t be ridiculous! I just had to relish in the Alexander Valley's cassis, dried cherry, and raspberry; and the Napa Valley's aromas of cranberry, black cherry, and vanilla, supported by a lengthy finish, by the way.

I mean, what else would you have me do? Just pour all that wine out on the sand? Officer, that’s called littering, and last time I checked littering is illegal!

2006 Myers Reserve Red Wine, Alexander Valley 750ml 2-Pack

Technique: The fruit was destemmed and gently crushed into stainless steel fermentation tanks.  Inoculated with Pasteur Red yeast,  fermentation completed in 12 days. This wine was gently pumped over twice daily.  Held on the skins for an additional 10 days to complete malolactic fermentation and soften tannins. The wine was gently pressed in a bladder press,  racked off the gross lees and moved to barrels where the wine was racked quarterly to allow for natural clarification.  The final blend was assembled from hand selected individual barrels and bottled in June 2008.

Winery Details

White Oak Vineyards & Winery

Owner:
Bill Myers
Founded:
1981
Location:
Healdsburg, CA

Born in Los Angeles, Bill Myers worked as a building contractor and salmon fisherman in Alaska. During the 1970's, Bill relocated to the bucolic town of Healdsburg, California, sold his boat, purchased his first vineyard in the Alexander Valley and began to make wine.

With his newly purchased vineyard, a tiny tasting room and wine production facility just off the square in downtown Healdsburg, Bill started making wines. He quickly became recognized for producing wonderful Chardonnay, Zinfandel and what was to become White Oak's flagship wine: Sauvignon Blanc. In 1991, Bill took home his first Sonoma County Harvest Fair Sweepstakes Award for his 1990 Sonoma County Chardonnay.

Presently, White Oak Vineyards & Winery has nearly 750 acres of vineyards divided between the Napa, Alexander and Russian River Valleys. Roughly 10% of this fruit is used in White Oak wines with the balance being sold to other well known prestige wineries.
