Wine Winner

A wine so fun they made it a game! (There is no actual game.)

Welcome to the new game show everyone's talking about: Barrel Select! And now your host, John Johnson!

Thank you, thank you! We've got a great show ahead of us, so let's just dive right in. Introducing today's contestant, hailing from Pensacola Florida, Amelia Grayly! Amelia, tell us a little bit about yourself.

"I like horses and I once swam through-"

Great! Now, on your mark, ready, set, SELECT!

"Umm... the second one?"

That is... A VALID SELECTION! Chip, tell her what she's won!

Amelia will be taking home a Vin du Lac Barrel Select Sampler. That's one bottle of earthy 2007 Cab Sav, one bottle of the gorgeous 2007 Merlot, and one bottle of the elegant 2008 Cabernet Franc!

What do you have to say about that, Amelia?

"It's-"

That's all the time we have, folks! Join us again next week for another episode of BARREL SELECT!

Features

2007 "Barrel Select" Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml

Bright cherry and earth notes are evident throughout the wine, and a touch of Merlot and Malbec add depth and spice to the Cabernet backbone of this Bordeaux blend.  Owner/winemaker Larry Lehmbeckers’ penchant for creating balanced, full bodied red wines is on full display here.

2007 "Barrel Select" Merlot 750ml

The gorgeous light Ruby color of this 2007 Merlot belies the complexity and intensity of the wine within.  Classic varietal aromas of cherry and plum don’t stand in the way of an undercurrent of cocoa, earth, and a faint note of pencil shavings.  This 100% Merlot has great mid-palate weight and the versatility to be enjoyed singly or accompanied with your favorite cut of grilled steak.

2008 "Barrel Select" Cabernet Franc 750ml

The moderate 2008 vintage produced a Franc of great density and weight, and relatively moderate alcohol.  Snipes Mountain fruit again comprises the majority of the blend (53%) with other cool climate sites providing elegance and intricacy.  Hearty Weinbau Merlot (13%) adds, heft, structure and mid-palate presence.   As always, this vintage offers a nose of violets, raspberries, and spicy, licorice-lined herbaceousness.  On the palate, the flavors include ripe Strawberry and mocha undertones.

Winery Details

Vin du Lac

Founded:
2002
Owner:
Larry Lehmbecker
Location:
Chelan, WA

At Vin du Lac, the winemaking mission is driven by their desire to establish Lake Chelan as one of the recognized centers of ultra-premium wine production on the West Coast. Since their first vintage in 2002, they have steadily increased production and their use of Chelan Valley wine grapes. They have also continually upgraded their facilities and equipment to incorporate the best of modern wine-making technology that is consistent with their dedication to remaining small-scale winemakers. All wine grapes at Vin du Lac are hand harvested. All wine lots are fermented in small batches (1.5 ton red fermenters are typical). All red wines are true barrel-aged wines. They do not use any oak alternatives in any of our wines. Although they have grown significantly from that first 2002 crush, they will never grow so large that they have to abandon boutique production techniques and values. That is their winemaking promise, and the essence of their commitment to quality.

Top Comments are discussion forum posts we have deemed worthy of your time. Listen, we get a lot of comments, and most of the time, it's pretty forgettable stuff; but sometimes you rise to the top like butterfat in milk. We don't recommend you base your self-worth on how often we feature your comments, but we don't expressly forbid it either.
