Buenas Viñas

Dig these crazy mixed-up Argentines!

No wonder this six-pack from Viñas de Luján de Cuyo is so mixed-up: it's from the upside-down side of the world! Do the vines grow downward into the soil in Argentina? Do they have to stomp the grapes to get the skins back on? Are the stems on top of their wine glasses? We have so many questions about winemaking down there - questions that must go unanswered, because they are so stupid.

Whatever the deal is, these Viñas de Luján de Cuyo wines are perfectly right-side-up by the time they get here. The deep red Malbec is as fleshy and sensuous as a couple dancing the tango, and as fruity and spicy as a couple dancing the tango in a pie factory. The white Torrontes is crisp and fresh and zippy like some metaphor we can't think of, but don't hold our inarticulacy against it.

Maybe the right-side-up and upside-down halves of the world aren't so different. I'm sure we can all agree that this Viñas de Luján de Cuyo mixed six-pack is very delicious - or, as they would say in Argentina, snoᴉɔᴉlǝp ʎɹǝʌ.

Features

2013 Viñas de Luján De Cuyo, Malbec, Mendoza 750ml 3-Pack

Crimson red with deep bluish hues; intense and spicy fruity notes, nutmeg and white pepper combine with a subtle vanilla aroma. Best described as voluptuous and versatile, this wine has fleshy and sensuous flavors and a long finish.

Wide temperature ranges during winter and sunny days in summer time, combined with low levels of rainfall and permeable sandy soils, make Mendoza an optimum region for grape growing.

2013 Viñas de Luján De Cuyo, Torrontes, Mendoza 750ml 3-Pack

Made from 100% Torrontes.  Dry, fresh and appley, with racy and easy drinking fruit on the palate. Very appealing green fruits on the nose leading to a refreshing zippy acidity. Light and dry style to be drunk young.

Wide temperature ranges during winter and sunny days in summer time, combined with low levels of rainfall and permeable sandy soils, make Mendoza an optimum region for grape growing.

Los Toneles Winery

Owner:
Millán S.A.
Founded:
1922
Location:
Mendoza, Argentina

Historic Los Toneles Winery is owned by Millán S.A. and it is located a few steps from the downtown area of Mendoza City. It is a place where wine is not only made but also venerated and the winery pays tribute to the rich cultural and architectural history of Mendoza.

The wines come from their own vineyards. Mendoza has a desert climate that favors vine harvest. The large temperature range intensifies the aromas and colors fixed within the fruit that are later transmitted to the wines. The vineyards are located within different regions of the province, where the soils and climates are ideal for each variety. The lands are irrigated with virgin thaw waters from the Andes. The purity of the water makes it possible to obtain wines of intense color with balanced acidity, which also favors the aging of the wines. Tasting the varietal determines the time of harvest, seeking well rounded and sweet tannins along with a maximum aromatic expression. The clusters are handpicked and transported immediately to the winery.
