2003 Uvada Merlot, Napa Valley 750ml 6-Pack

Uvada, from the Spanish language, means "a bountiful harvest" and this wine delivers on the promise. A vintage advertising poster inspired Uvada's elegant label.

The 2003 vintage Uvada has complex aromas of black cherries, toasty oak, and mature fruit that beg to be tasted. Rich flavors of ripe black fruit and sweet vanilla fulfill the expectations. This is a serious Merlot of pedigree and consistent quality that will not disappoint.

The wine is a blend of 84% percent Merlot from Andy Beckstoffer's "Vineyard X" and 16% percent Cabernet Sauvignon from the Yount Mill Vineyard "Pelissa Block," in Oakville.

Uvada u•va•da (oo-VAH-dah) n., Spanish - a bountiful harvest

Uvada Merlot lives up to the promise of its name – a wine of bountiful fruit flavors and abundant richness.   It is a wine made expressly in an Old World style – meant for sharing around a table with family and friends.  From winegrapes grown in some of the finest vineyards in the Oakville district, Uvada Merlot is a blend of exceptional Napa Valley Merlot and a balancing portion of Cabernet Sauvignon, creating an unusually harmonious and distinctly flavorful wine.  Produced in very limited quantities each year, Uvada Merlot is acclaimed for its finesse and elegant style.  It is only released to market when it has enjoyed enough bottle aging in our cellars to be fully expressive and quite ready to drink.

The 2003 vintage Uvada Napa is a blend of 84% Merlot from the Oakville AVA, and 16% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Yountville AVA, both in the middle of the Napa Valley.

Vendor Details

Marilyn Wines

Founded:
1983
Location:
Napa, CA

Marilyn Wines traces its origins to 1981, when a small group of friends started making wine at their home near St. Helena in the Napa Valley.  One evening in 1983, over dinner and a bottle of homemade merlot, the concept of "Marilyn Merlot" was born.  The wine enjoyed a good deal of popularity around the valley and was often donated to charity auctions and given as Christmas gifts.

In 1985, the playful idea and the fine wine that bore its name led to the limited production of Marilyn Merlot for sale to the public.  Over the 25 years, continuing acclaim from critics, collectors, and lovers of fine wine have led to the production of Marilyn Merlot, Marilyn Cabernet, Norma Jeane, the Velvet Collection, Marilyn Blonde de Noirs, Marilyn Red Dress, and Marilyn Sauvignon Blonde, and Marilyn Meritage.

Marilyn Wines Production Facility: Napa Wine Company
The building that now houses Napa Wine Company, where Marilyn Wines are produced, is actually a combination of two historic winery properties. The oldest building originated in 1877. The newer of the two dates back to 1892. These buildings have the distinction of being Bonded Winery #9.

The history starts with owners Adolph Brun and Jean Chaix establishing Nouveau Medoc Winery in 1877. In 1916 Brun and Chaix sold the winery to the California Wine Association, which produced sacramental wines during prohibition. In 1940 Louis Stralla, one of the founding members of the Napa Valley Vintners Association, purchased the winery and named it Cult Wine Central. Stralla changed the focus to a larger scale and by 1947 it had grown into the largest independent winery in the Napa Valley. Over the next few years the winery was sold four times ending up in the hands of United Vintners who then sold it to Heublein in 1981. Heublein refurbished and expanded the buildings to become the Chardonnay production cellar for Inglenook.

In 1993, the Pelissa Family, headed by a member of the 4th generation, Andrew Hoxsey, purchased Cult Wine Central. This family also owns Yount Mill Vineyards (where about 50 tons merlot grapes that go into the making of Marilyn Merlot are grown). These vineyards are 100% organically farmed.  These new owners completely renovated the facilities to accommodate high quality small-lot production of over 20 different varieties. It has now built a reputation as one of Napa Valley's premier custom crush facilities and is home to over 60 premium wine brands, including Nova Wines, Inc.
