Wait a second…
Today’s Tuesday, and that means Woot should be doing a Two-for-Tuesday deal on their sites. But this wine deal is a Summit Lake Winery Howell Mountain Estate Red 2+1 Pack. And last I checked two plus one ain’t two. So what’s their angle here?
I guess the two-fer is the two bottles of 2006 Summit Lake Howell Mountain Zinfandel, and I’m okay with that. I could definitely make use of two bottles of that peppery aroma with bold cherry flavor and a finish with hints of tobacco. Two of those wines are A-Okay in my book.
But then there’s the wild card: this 2006 Emily Kestrel Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon.
Sure, it’s delicious, with aromatic notes like rhubarb, white pepper, and cedar. And it’s got some robust tannins and flavors like black cherry, cranberries, and a toffee finish. You could age it for a decade or two if you wanted. And it’s named “kestrel,” and those birds are pretty cool.
So…which are the two-fer and which is the plus one? Is it two bottles of Zinfandel plus one bottle of Cabernet? Or is it two bottles of wine, one of which is a Zin and the other which is a Cab, plus one more bottle which coincidentally is another Zin? My head hurts.
