Pato Bien!!

Hello, Wine.Woot customers. Or, as we say at home: "Quack."

First, I want to emphasize how very appreciative I am of your considerate treatment over the years. Ducks are often welcome in your communities. You quack at us in your pidgin Duck. Your children playfully herd us away from our resting places. And, of course, you provide us with very old bread. All fowl should be so fortunate.

In fact, that would be sufficient. But you take it further, humans. You overachievers. You raise the bar, as they say in corporate boardrooms.

You eat us.

Now, now, I realize I sound as if I'm being insincere. But no! On behalf of my anatidae siblings (except swans, who are mostly inedible dillholes), we are so grateful for your consumption of us.

It wasn't always that way. Some of the more crass and tasteless amongst your species would eat us with foamy beers or soda. Worse - WORSE! - some of you would pair our meats with subpar wines. Beasts, if you don't mind my saying so.

But you get it now. You finally understand. You're dining on our fatty breasts and flavorful thighs with these remarkable Summerland Pinots. You're getting the most out of us ... you're optimizing your duck consumption, or "ducksumption," as we say in the biz.

On behalf of ducks everywhere, humans, I raise a glass to you and say, "eat up."

And seriously, stay away from the swans.

2009 Solomon Hills Pinot Noir, Santa Maria Valley 750ml

Solomon Hills Pinot Noir embodies bright, red fruit and silky tannins. Dense and earthy, with juicy strawberry, clove and morel mushroom, this wine is showcased by its bright acid structure. Layered and long on the palate, with potpourri and cinnamon at first, followed by deeper notes of cured meats and star anise; this wine is the perfect match to your sautéed duck breast or stuffed pork tenderloin.

2010 Solomon Hills Pinot Noir, Santa Maria Valley 750ml

Solomon Hills Pinot Noir embodies bright fruit and pleasing tannins. Dense and earthy with juicy berry fruit and good acid structure; complex and long with balance and lively style. Varietal characteristics are showcased by slight oak influences making this wine pure pleasure.

Vineyards: Solomon Hills is one of the younger vineyards in our Single Vineyard program. Yet the cool climate and coastal influence allows this vineyard to produce some of the finest Pinot Noir in the Santa Maria AVA. We source two clones from this Vineyard, clone 113 and clone 667.

2010 Bien Nacido Vineyards Pinot Noir, Santa Maria Valley 750ml

The 2010 Bien Nacido Pinot Noir is an expression of power and grace: fruity black raspberry and cherry compote flavors are supported by a structure of perfect acidity and superb tannin ripeness. This pinot noir is opulent yet refreshing as a result, proving yet again that the hallmark Bien Nacido spice and balance truly delights! We recommend pairing with all the classic pinot noir dishes that have rich sauces – savor with peking duck or roast chicken with a mushroom demi-glace.

Vineyards: Situated on a bench overlooking the Santa Maria River, the Bien Nacido Vineyard is the jewel in the Santa Maria Valley AVA, one of the coolest appellations in California. Prized for its long growing season, this proven and celebrated vineyard benefits from a strong marine influence which is conducive to growing some of the finest Pinot Noir fruit in the state. Among a diverse spectrum of Pinot Noir planted in the vineyard, we contract the oldest section of vines, planted to Clone 22 in 1973. Among the more unique aspects of the T Block are the inner-plantings of the Pommard clone that lie in between the wide, old vine rows. A small portion of this Pommard harvest is fermented separately and included in the final blend each year.
