Now HERE'S a miracle!

We know what you're thinking: Who was the REAL St. Julian?

It's a good question, we feel. No matter how delicious the taste of Honeycrisp apples and tropical fruit, why would you want to drink a wine named after some dude you didn't even understand? So we've done a little research into the matter, and we think we've figured out which St. Julian has loaned this wine his name.

Our first guess was Julian of Toledo. He took his position by poisoning Wamba, the king of the Visigoths, which is so BEYOND METAL that our heart raced to give him all the credit. But it turns out that this wine is in the Italian "grigio" style with a lush rich body, and why would the Italians name a wine after a Toledoian? So we moved on.

Our next choice was Julian of Le Mans, who lived in the 3rd or 4th Century. He was thought to be a Roman nobleman, which is the next best thing to being an Italian, right? He was sent to Gaul to preach to the Cenomani, and cared for the poor and sick in the Le Mans area. He even supposedly performed a miracle and created a spring from the ground, as bright and clean as these wines that share a name very much like his. We say "very much" because it probably isn't this St. Julian. How do we know? Well, Julian of Le Mans didn't have a delicate aroma of mango or vivid acidity, and these wines do.

Ultimately we decided Julian of Antioch was the best choice for this wine's namesake. Why? Because he was sewn up in a sack half-filled with scorpions, sand and vipers and then thrown into the sea. And if anyone has a good excuse for needing a 6-pack of wine, it's a guy with a story like that.

So we salute you, St. Julian, with Rieslings and Pinot Grigio! Thanks for lookin' out for us.

2012 Reserve Riesling, Lake Michigan Shore 750ml 3-Pack

Absolutely pure in flavor, harmonious and well-proportioned in its architecture, this Riesling seems crisp and light, yet packs intense flavors of super ripe peach, mango, lemon zest and mineral. Its vivid acidity jammed with fruit leaves a wonderful sensation on the palate creating a luscious, food-friendly style. Literally, like liquid fruit!

This is a bright, clean wine designed to be consumed shortly after release. There is no oak aging to weigh it down. All aging took place in chilled stainless steel tanks before bottling to preserve the fresh fruit character.

Vineyard Notes: Burgoyne Ridge Vineyard
With farming roots coming from Germany, the Nitz family started growing juice grapes in Southwest Michigan in the 1940's as a grower for Welch's and home winemakers. In 1971, the farm started planting wine grape varietals. Dan Nitz, the fourth generation grower in the family, currently manages over 250 acres of juice grapes and 260 acres of wine grapes while employing more than twenty employees year round. As the farm continues to focus on wine grape varietals, Dan Nitz's passion for grape growing is evident in our wines.

2012 Reserve Pinot Grigio, Lake Michigan Shore 750ml 3-Pack

Made in the Italian “grigio” style, this wine shows delicate aromas of mango, Bartlett pear and pineapple. These splendid aromas lead to a medium-bodied palate, with juicy Honeycrisp apples and tropical fruit flavors followed by a lush, rich body. Its style, harmony and amazing grace are balanced with its razor-sharp acidity.

Vineyard Notes: Hollywood Farms - Baroda Farm
Pinot Gris is part of Hollywood Holls Vineyards. Currently growing 8 commercial varietals, Mike and Sandra Nitz have owned their farm since 1975. With over 100 years of grape growing history in the Nitz family, Hollywood Hills is a hands on farm, recently converting all of their grape acreage into wine grape varietals. Passionate about growing grapes in Southwest Michigan, Hollywood Hills Vineyards has taken grape growing to a new level, planting 8 experimental varietals from Spain, Germany and France.

2012 Reserve Riesling, Lake MIchigan Shore 750ml 3-Pack

Winemaker Notes: The winemaking technique used to produce this wine begins in the vineyard. It is harvested in the early morning hours, so the fruit is cool when it reaches the winery. After harvesting, the fruit is crushed and destemmed to our Diemme membrane press. The juice is pressed to a tank, chilled and settled for 48 hours. The juice is then racked to a jacketed fermenter tank, where the wine undergoes a long, cool fermentation, which was 58-62F. This process extends the fermentation, which contributes to preserving Riesling’s fresh and fruity character. A special strain of yeast was used in order to arrest the fermentation, meaning that the residual sugar

2012 Reserve Pinot Grigio, Lake Michigan Shore 750ml 3-Pack

Winemaker Notes: Our Pinot Grigio grapes are sourced from Berrien County where this early-ripening variety thrives and produces fruit with intense aromatics and character. The fruit is harvested and transported to the winery in the cool early morning hours to minimize skin contact and ensure that the pinkish-gray hue of the skins does not translate into the juice as the wine is produced ‘in bianco’-the technique of making a white wine from red-skinned grapes. Our final blend incorporates a small percentage of Traminette which we found to both enhance the aromatics and add dimension to the palate.

To best showcase the vibrant fruit this wine saw no oak or malolactic fermentation. This is a bright, clean wine designed to be consumed shortly after release. There is no oak aging to weigh it down. All aging took place in chilled stainless steel tanks before bottling to preserve the fresh fruit character.
